Engine: pit-rim exits live in one helper (pitRimExits) shared by the
resolver and the automaton; chargeReach names the six-stride cap; dust
sight is inDust + dustAtEnd; PushPending is exported once; the force-field
counter builds its events in one list; drawUnderSlowDeath says what it
draws under. Test groups are named for the rule they pin, not the
revision that introduced it.
Client: one smoothstep; one edgeScar per battle-scarred edge; one
board-zone rule (which also seats the caption strip on phones); the
compass names live in SIDE_NAMES; net.flash() is the one toast; MediaQuery
replaces two hand-rolled matchMedia listeners; sprites carry their sizes
as plain numbers and their CSS in one rule each; canvas helpers are
formatted like the rest of the tree. Comments that told how a cel or a
fallback used to look now say what it draws. The actions-over notice no
longer blames a pickup when slime ended the turn.
Server and ops: dataRoot() is the one data directory; headlineOf builds
its deeds without a cast; the rollup and skills read the same way the
code behaves.

An audit of every card in the deck, prompted by the Alter Ego, found
two more whose cast worked but whose promise was never kept.
LIFESAVER — "immune to the effects of losing both of your treasures"
— was cast and remembered and never asked where a wizard is
eliminated for exactly that; twenty-three recorded casts never
mattered. FORCE FIELD stopped the spell and vanished, though the card
keeps it standing until the opponent's turn ends, barring them from
entering its caster's square or casting on or past them. Both are
honored from rev 21, the field on every side where the card says one.
Older games replay as they were played. Tests pin both readings.

Randy raised his double, selected it, and could cast nothing through
it: the card's whole point — "it may use any of the spells in your
hand, and you need not be in its L.O.S." — had never been wired. A
cast may now name the double, and the double's square becomes the
spell's origin: sight, reach, the launch point the reel films, and
the direction a knockback or rout pushes. The hand, the attack, and
every answer to it stay the caster's. Spells that move the caster's
own body — a goat's charge, a swap — do not travel through it. On the
board, the double's sight lights the eligible squares; selecting the
double and then a card aims from where it stands. A test hides the
caster and fires through the double.
The first-stride caption sat on the maze and hid the walls beside the
wizard; it now stands above the board with a color chip for "you."

On a desktop the game grid is now exactly the window's height. The
board and the paper rail share the top row, the rail scrolling in
place, and the hand with its End turn sit pinned beneath — nothing a
first turn needs is ever below the fold. The board's window fills
whatever height the row allows instead of a fixed subtraction. A
wide, short window — a laptop in landscape — stands the hand beside
the board on its own until the player chooses a side, since a tall
maze under a bottom hand left a postage stamp. A short window shrinks
the bottom hand's cards a little. The eyes toggle floats over the
board's corner so it costs no height, and the masthead's "invite
friends" hides on phones where it wrapped.

The landing says the pitch before it asks for a name — steal treasure,
blast through walls, outwit your friends — and states the goal. The
coach says "select a card, then choose its target," which is what the
cards actually want. The turn banner counts treasures home beside the
moves left. The council speaks once when its three voices agree. A
friend arriving on an invite link meets "Join Eric's game," a name
field, and a seat, with the gallery an afterthought; the masthead
says "invite friends" beside the room code. The first-person view has
a toggle beside the board instead of a checkbox in preferences. How
to play opens with winning. And a shared moment's card is titled by
the turn's story — the treasure carried home, the blow that landed,
the spell cast — instead of whose turn it was.

One shared motion policy: the OS's reduce-motion setting, read live
through Svelte's own media query, folds into the flourishes switch.
Under it the board plays no flourishes, the reel skips its die
interlude and slate wipes, bodies jump between squares instead of
gliding, the canvas holds its ambient shimmers still, and the camera
cuts wherever the director would have panned — in the cockpit as in
the reel, so the eye still lands on what the director chose to watch.
Timers and animation frames are cleared when the policy flips or the
pane closes. A first turn and two reels stepped clean under the
setting with no errors.

The last of the inked look. Walls carry stone joints and highlights,
doors their grain, hinges, and a brass lock plate whose keyhole turns
to a cross when jammed; battle scars fracture and branch with the
damage; illusion walls drift as tapered wisps with breathing glints;
the wall of fire burns in flat three-tone flames on a stepped flicker;
warp mouths and destinations are painted curls. Through a wizard's
eyes the punch is a three-tone hand with an ink contour and a
hand-cut POW, the same on every platform where the emoji glyph was
not, and the incoming fist no longer reverses late in its travel. The
inked stand-ins for missing conjuration files match. Goldens
re-blessed: every board frame, and the web's third ring.

Eric repainted the maze. The first-person materials are painterly
sandstone, flagstone, and iron; the hand-drawn token set is redrawn
with matching chests and hats; the standing conjurations — hedges,
jello, dust, safe, warp light — and the effect billboards are redone
in the same hand; and the board's flourishes trade their filters and
gradients for flat cel silhouettes cut from five shared shapes, which
read better against the counters and cost a phone nothing. Thirty
scene goldens re-blessed against the new walls.

Two of Randy's flourishes. Every chronicle line now carries a small
square in the color of the wizard acting — whoever cast, struck,
walked, or countered, else the turn's owner — so one player's doings
can be picked out of the scroll at a glance. And the life-points row
of the wizard whose turn it is wears an accent bar and a tint, since
bold alone was lost in the handwriting.

The eleventh scene, written for the new conjurations. Wanderer fills
the corridor between them with a dust cloud — no sight, no spells —
so Rival lays a dimensional warp with one mouth under his own feet
and the other at her back, steps through the light, and lands on her
square fists first. She bolts into her own cloud, and the die picks
where she goes: into a wall. Three beats through the eyes — the cloud
billowing, the arrival, the blind stagger with the far pillar of light
at the corridor's end — and the board at the arrival.

Kestrel stood against a wall Mad Hywel turned to water, was washed one
square back into stone, and was crushed twice. The sweep walked the
way it pushed: having shoved him onto the next square, its next probe
found him there and shoved him again with the force left. From rev 20
a sweep names every victim along its line first, then pushes each
once; older games replay the double shove. A test washes a wizard one
square into a wall under both readings.
With it, a client fix: a tap on a bare square while holding a card no
longer walks there. Kestrel tapped a slime with LIGHTNING BLAST in hand
and strode into it. The tap now says the card is aimed at a wizard or
creature and leaves the feet alone.

Three strangers this week pressed play, looked at the board for a
minute, and closed it. What they saw: a small maze under a roll-off
card, a column of prose, seven strange cards, and nothing that said
where they were or what to tap. Now, on a browser's first game, the
squares a stride can reach glow and the rest of the maze falls into
shadow, with one line hung over the wizard for the first stride. The
turn banner says what winning is for the first two rounds. And when
the clockwork rolls first, its opening turn waits behind the roll-off
card instead of playing out unwatched, then arrives a beat at a time.
The step light switches off once that first game is won, and lives in
preferences for anyone who wants it back.

The automaton stood in Kestrel's DUST CLOUD and filled a square with
stone three rows away. The cloud blocked only sight lines passing
through it; the square a line began or ended in was never asked. The
FAQ is plain: no LOS spell may be cast by a wizard in a cloud, nor at
one, though a spell upon oneself still works, and VISIONSTONE does
not see through dust. From rev 19 the engine's sight and the view's —
the targeting aid the client and the automaton both read — refuse a
line with dust at either end. Older games keep their sight.

Kestrel's blade came back halved off the automaton's REFLECTION and
landed before he could raise the ABSORB in his hand. FULL REFLECTION's
return was already a fresh attack with the caster's own window; the
half now goes the same way — its damage and any split duration ride
a returned stack the caster may meet with an ABSORB, a BLUNT, or
another REFLECTION. Trapped spells and creatures' touches keep the
instant half. Older games replay as they landed. A test soaks the
half and takes it, under rev 18 and rev 17.

Only a bare step is a matter of revision: from rev 17 a square beside a
mouth is a fork to name; before it the step lands on the square, as the

Kestrel stood beside a pit dug against the board's west edge, walls
north and south of it, and was told there was nothing to land on — the
rim check counted only neighbouring squares, and the warp mouth beyond
the pit is not one. From rev 17 a mouth on the rim is an exit like any
square, named at a fork like any other; every older game takes the
mouth when no square offers, so the refused crossing goes through as
it stands. The jump through a mouth carries `via: "warp"`: the board
shimmers both mouths instead of streaking across the maze, and the
reel cuts rather than gliding. The automaton leaves a pit only by its
exits. Three tests walk the rim under both readings.

Idle rooms already went back to their ledgers, but a boot replayed
every ledger before the first sweep could put them to bed again — most
of a restart's fifteen seconds spent rebuilding games nobody was at.
A room put to sleep now leaves a stub beside the ledgers, with the
ledger's size at that moment; at boot a stub whose size still matches
answers for the room and the ledger stays unreplayed. Replayed rooms
take their eviction clock from the ledger's last line, so the first
sweep after a boot writes the stubs for everything long idle.

Two-thirds of a ledger replay was structuredClone; a recursive copy of
plain data does the same work in a fraction of the time, so a server
boot — every ledger replayed — is half as long, and the automaton's
lookahead is quicker with it. Caddy now holds a request for up to
thirty seconds while the game restarts, dialing every quarter second,
so a visitor who lands during a deploy waits instead of meeting a 502.

Reuben, a goat with a 5 played and eight legs, aimed at a wizard eight
corridor steps away and was told he had no wings. The charge measures
the walk through real corridors, as rev 10 made it, but the walk was
searched only six steps deep and anything past that came back as
unreachable. From rev 16 the search runs as far as the legs do; older
games keep the six-step reading. A test charges seven or eight steps
under both revisions.

Sentry WIZWAR-5: a table open through a deploy asked for the replay
module by its old hashed name, the deploy had deleted it, and the

the shell; and the client reloads once when Vite reports a failed
import, so the live bundle takes over.

Eric, a giant on his first turn, could only shove a wizard in a
straight line: the engine shoved in the giant's own direction or
refused. The FAQ says otherwise — "If Big Man pushes someone to an
intersection, then the other player gets to decide which direction to
go." Now a pushed wizard leaves by any open side but the way the giant
came. One open side is taken. Several are theirs to choose: the stride
hangs in a pushPending window like the Ward's, the pushed wizard
answers with pushChoice (a dialog offers the ways; an automaton steps
out of the giant's line), and the stride resumes with the answer — a
blinded giant's roll is not rolled twice.
Rounding a corner was a refusal before, so every game may do it now.
Only the case that used to resolve — straight ahead open — keeps its
old reading in games dealt before rev 15; from rev 15 the pushed
wizard chooses there too. Tests pin the corner, the fork's window and
its refusals, and the older reading; 84 ledgers replay.

The table's reading of CREATE PIT: a thin ledge runs around the rim,
and "jumping over" is edging along it, trying not to fall. So on a 2,
3, or 4 the walker lands on an open square beside the pit — the only
one if there is one, otherwise the one they name (a click on that
square sends `exit` with the move) — and a pit with no way off cannot
be entered from there at all, refused before any die is rolled. The
FAQ's diagonal crossing at an intersection is this rule.
Older games bounced the walker back and charged the stride; they keep
that under their frozen revision, so GDCN's seven bounces replay. The
clockwork's path search treats a pit as a road when any side of its
rim is open and names the exit its path leaves by. Tests pin the fork,
the single way off, the closed pit under both revisions, and the
brain's route.

Kestrel's archmage berserker dug a pit at the far mouth of a warp,
then tried to walk through that mouth seven times: each stride landed
on its own pit with a thornbush beyond, the maze bounced it back and
charged the stride, and on the seventh it rolled the 1 and fell in.
Cursed with SLOW DEATH at seven life, it kept drawing two cards a
turn at a point apiece, raised a SHADOW that drinks a point a turn,
and bled to death in three turns.
The path search now refuses a pit it cannot leap beyond — the same
test the maze applies — whether the pit is a waypoint or the goal.
Under SLOW DEATH the end-of-turn draw keeps four life in hand and
draws nothing when it cannot; while bleeding, or at six life or less,
no SHADOW is raised. Three tests pin them.
The chronicle tells the bounce as what it was: "leaps the pit —
nothing to land on beyond it — and teeters back", not a blind blunder
into a wall; and the shadow's last drink no longer trails a zero-damage
line. Brain and chronicle changes only, ungated; 83 ledgers replay.

For visitors: the landing shows a clip card of the maze before asking
for a name; "Play now against a clockwork wizard" is one tap from the
landing to the first turn (the room, the seat, and the flip each
follow as the server confirms the last); pass-the-device and seat
transfer fold behind "More ways to play".
For a first game: automatons default to apprentice until this browser
has seen a game through, then step up to adept unless the tier was
picked by hand; the council speaks once unasked on a first turn; a
finished game offers "play again" (the same bots re-seated in a fresh
room) and "share the tale" (the whole replay as a link).
For players who know the box: a House rulings tab in help — what the
digital table does differently, every rulings revision (now exported
from the engine as RULES_REVISIONS, which the deckRev doc block points
at), and the 76 cards the FAQ has spoken on. And the arrow keys and
WASD walk on the board as they already did in the first-person pane.
The recorder's poster settle lengthens to outlast a change-of-eyes
wipe; two cards had caught the title card instead of the maze.

Two newcomers on announcement day left within minutes at the same
moment: they picked up a treasure, the turn's actions ended as the
rules say, every walk after that was refused, and the status line's
"turn spent" told them nothing about why or what the treasure was for.
Both had stalled over a minute before their first move as well.
Now: on a first turn, a coaching slip says what a turn is — walk this
many squares, a NUMBER card walks farther, tap a card to cast, End
turn — dismissed once with "got it" and remembered in prefs. After a
pickup, the status line says the pickup ended the actions and the
treasure comes along, and to end the turn and carry it home. While
carrying on later turns, a slip names whose treasure it is, how far
home is, and that two scored wins; your own treasure scores nothing
in your arms.

Two blind reviews of everything since the last pass (afa0e17), every
finding checked against the code, no behavior changed: all thirty
scene goldens match without a re-bless and the engine suite is
untouched.
Reel and renderer: the camera's look-down rule is stated once, beside
LOOK_DOWN, instead of twice in the effect; the empty aim branch that
stood where a cutaway used to be is gone (the guard it implied is now
explicit); the pit events and the punch are handled by their own
types, not through "in" casts; smoothstep is one export used by every
tween instead of eleven inline copies; the two floor rings share one
painter; project() takes a Billboard instead of a third hand-typed
copy of its fields; the strides-left figure and the web rim no longer
shadow the reel's steps and the pane's fx; the die card's verdict is
built from events, not by matching an emoji; the workshop asks for the
hover cue by name instead of passing an empty click handler.
Server and engine: one requestBase() for the origin, one slug pattern
in store.ts gating both the clip page and its files, one 404 for both;
LOOPBACK sits above its only caller; doCounteract names what a counter
is played against once; fearCells sits beside its own docblock rather
than between sightedCellsFor and its.
Deploy: chromiumExe, the private server, ffmpeg, and the reel rewind
live in deploy/lib/harness.mjs, shared by the gate, the recorder, and
the card cutter instead of pasted three times; the recorder drops its
duplicate frame counters and names its poster settle; the card uses the
gallery's exact gold; the one-time Sentry URL bootstrap leaves
deploy.sh; the backup comment states the rule rather than the incident.

Three sysadmin items ahead of the public announcement's arrivals.
deploy/wizwar-rollup.sh writes one JSON line per UTC day to
/var/lib/wizwar/rollup.jsonl at 00:10: yesterday's traffic from Caddy's
access log (requests, human vs bot addresses as counts only, socket
connects, path mix, external referrers), the table's growth (new
rooms, human seats and names, lifetime game totals, reports and
replies), and the box's vitals (service memory and peak, disk, load,
protocol errors, service starts, ledger size). Re-rolling a day
replaces its line. It checks in to a Sentry cron monitor of its own,
whose URL deploy.sh derives from the backup monitor's on first
install, alongside the cron entry. The pulse gains a Trends section
that reads the last week of it. Caddy keeps 30 log files instead of 5
as the raw backing.
Per-address limits on the two doors anyone may use unseated: 12 new
rooms and 6 reports per address per hour, in a sliding window keyed by
the address Caddy forwards. The per-connection cap stays; it reset on
reconnect, which is what a script would do.

Eric grabbed a warded treasure and took the Ward's three points — but
the attack modal showed a bare-knuckled punch, the hint line said the
owner "attacks with a punch", and the cast panel called it a physical
blow with no card behind it. The engine knew better: the stack has
carried sourceName ("warded treasure") since rev 9, and the damage
line used it. The client never read it.
Now every cardless stack with a name shows that name — and, for the
Ward, the Ward card itself — in the modal, the hint line, and the
cast panel, with the damage inbound. In the chronicle, a counteraction
played against it records "warded treasure" rather than "punch", and
an EMPATHY echo of it names the same. Chronicle-only, ungated; all 58
production ledgers replay clean.

The box lid links to the clips beside the about line, and the gallery
pages wear the site's own dress — its masthead with a way back to the
table, Oswald headings, Archivo Narrow body, the parchment-and-gold
buttons — so a shared clip and the game it came from read as one
place. The clip page's subtitle is the blurb alone, the title being
the heading.

Springing the Trap never showed its fireball: Rival stepped into the
watched corridor facing the way he walked, and the ambush's fireball
flew in from the mouth behind him while only the caption told of it.
The director now aims at incoming magic and punches — the caster's or
attacker's square, straight or through a mouth — and a stride that
ends with something to watch turns once more after the walk, the
slate holding the outcome until the eyes face it. The fireball comes
through the wormhole at the camera, then the blow lands.
The trap's first beat re-blessed for it.

The Warp Sniper cut to another angle the moment the fireball landed,
though the caster could see the whole thing: the director counted a
warp mouth before the target as blocked sight. Sight threads warps as
the rules say, and now the camera does too. director.sightline finds
the heading that actually sees a point — straight, or through a mouth
by aiming at the target's position in the far room and asking whether
the bent ray reaches it — and both the aim and the turn-toward-the-
actor rules use it. Only a point no ray reaches earns the cutaway.
Warp Sniper's second beat re-blessed: Wanderer's eyes now find Rival
through the mouth as the turn passes to him.

A day of Eric watching the clips as a newcomer would.
The camera can pitch: FirstPerson takes a `pitch` that shears the
horizon up the pane (walls center on it, the eye stays half a wall
high), so the ground at the pane's foot comes within half a cell. The
director uses it for deeds at your own feet — a conjuration on your
square, a treasure taken up, the pit you fell down — instead of the
cutaway that stepped outside your body.
Everything shows through a warp. The floor pass now runs between the
cast and the wall draw, so a column that bent through a mouth maps its
ground through the warp's rigid motion and wears the far room's decals
— the pit past the wormhole included — under the same violet haze as
its walls.
A wizard down a pit is public (inPit on the player view), drawn sunk to
the floor line in first person and dimmed on the board. A body sharing
your square, which had no depth to draw at, stands right in front of
you. A pit leap glides like a shove instead of cutting. And the
director's blocked-sight test no longer counts a warp BEYOND the
target as a block, nor stands a cutaway camera inside another wizard's
square — the pair that put Wanderer's face across the whole pane.
The reel stops for a die: a card over the held world names who rolls
and for what, tumbles the faces on the reel's own clock, lands the
roll, and only then plays the outcome; the beat, the fx, the glides
and the camera all wait it out. A punch by you drives a fist into the
scene; one at you comes at the camera; both land with a comic POW.
film-clips rolls until the reel's last move rather than a fixed count,
and the gate settles longer on a step whose caption rolls a die. All
thirty goldens re-blessed.

Two things for a viewer who has never seen the game. When the reel's
pov passes to another wizard, the cut used to be instant — one wizard
apparently teleporting. Now a slate wipes across the pane: a dark band
sweeps in over the old sight, holds with the new wizard's standee and
THROUGH THE EYES OF <name>, and sweeps off to reveal theirs. It is an
FpFx ("slate") drawn by the renderer on the reel's own clock, so the
harness and the film see the same frames.
The caption grows a right-hand column: strides left to spend this turn
as a countdown, ♥ life, and chips for what the wizard carries,
displays, or suffers — a treasure, displayed cards, spells on them
with turns remaining, lost turns, banked Pass Wall, attack spent. The
save-video composite carries the same column.
All thirty scene goldens re-blessed: the caption is inside every
frame. The 3D panes are pixel-identical to the previous goldens.

Eric's direction: passing through an ordinary warp mouth is a normal
stride. The veil already marks the doorway, and the wizard walks through
it as through any door — no shimmer, no surge, and the eyes carry on
the way they were going instead of turning back to show the mouth. The
surge stays for the moment a wormhole is cast, staged straight from the
warpOpened event through both its new mouths.
The heist's pinned frames re-blessed for it: at the crossing the reel
now looks down the corridor at the enemy's home rather than back
through the mouth.
deploy/film-clips.mjs films the catalog for the gallery — every scene
in both takes, the reel playing under the paused clock at one frame per
40ms, muxed to 25fps mp4s with the first pinned beat as the poster. The
recorder used for the first clip set lived in a session scratchpad and
was lost; this one lives here.

Every board effect the cockpit had no art for landed as the same purple
lightning-ring sprite, so a body stepping through a warp mouth wore the
ring over its own portrait. Eric wanted the purple wall to do the
animating. The portal effect now becomes a "surge" keyed by the mouth's
index in board.warps: the veil hung in that opening floods with its
texture, the swirl quickens and pales, and a ripple runs out to the
jambs before it settles back — nothing drawn over whoever stands in it.
The director used to steer the eyes toward that ring's cell on the pov
wizard's own crossing; it now aims at a surging mouth the same way, so
the heist's pinned frames render as before. Illusion and Pass Wall
crossings keep the shimmer sprite — stone has no veil to surge.
Scene gate: 29 of 30 frames unchanged. stone-gaze-s10-board drifts
0.21% with or without this change (the dashed sight line's phase), a
pre-existing flake left unblessed.

Each clip page already carried its own title, blurb, poster and
og:video — but the assets behind the tags let the unfurl down. The mp4s
were tail-indexed, so previewers in iMessage, Discord, Slack and
Facebook gave up before finding a player; the tags carried no video
dimensions, without which those same sites refuse to embed one; and the
poster was a 736x578 screenshot of the workshop chrome, cropped to
nothing by any share sheet.
deploy/clips-prep.mjs fixes the set before clips-publish.sh ships it:
a lossless faststart remux of every take, a 1200x630 card per clip cut
from the poster's first-person viewport with the title set over it (an
HTML card screenshot through the harness's chromium — ffmpeg here has
no drawtext), and the fpv frame size stamped into clips.json. The page
emits the card with its dimensions, og:video:width/height, and a Share
button that opens the phone's share sheet or copies the link.

deploy/verify-scenes.sh replays each screenplay to its authored beats
under a paused Playwright clock — pulses, tweens, and fx advance only
on the harness's schedule, so the same beat renders the same bytes
every run — screenshots the reel, and diffs pixels against the goldens
in deploy/scene-goldens (30 frames: warp transits, impacts, curses
landing, in both views). A channel may drift 6 before a pixel counts,
0.2% of pixels before a beat fails; --update blesses intended changes.
Proven both ways before landing: a clean double-run reproduces all 30
goldens exactly, and resurrecting the warp-smear cutaway bug fails the
warp-transit beat at 61% pixel drift.

?fpv&script=<name> plays a screenplay — a seeded deal, cards slipped
into hands as props, then a command list run through applyCommand, so
every event on screen is a legal move under the real rules. Ten scenes
ship in the catalog: wormhole heists, a fireball threaded through a
warp, an ambush that watches its corridor through a mouth, the leap
over a conjured pit, and the wall between two homes coming down.
The server grows a public gallery to hang them in: /clips lists the
catalog, /clips/<name> pages each scene in two takes — through the
wizard's eyes and from the board — with og:video unfurls and
Range-served mp4s (Safari refuses video without it). Files live in
the clip vault beside the rooms, shipped by deploy/clips-publish.sh;

A ray threads a warp and keeps counting; a body cannot. Both cutaway
cameras (reel and live pane) backed down deepestFacing's corridor,
which meant a mouth-adjacent shot could measure its backing room
THROUGH the warp and park the eye off the board — a second of smeared
nothing whenever someone stepped a rim warp. cutawayStand now measures
standable ground, clamping warped rays at the mouth, so the shot stands
on real floor watching the veil instead.

Sticky webs strand across a caught body, MEDUSA drains it to gray
stone, the invisible and the misted go translucent, BIG MAN towers and
SHRINK dwindles the billboard, and FEAR smoulders a dark-red dread

While a targeted card is armed, wizards and creatures standing on
castable ground wear a pulsing ember ring at their feet — drawn behind
the body, only when the walls actually show it, and only when the card
could land on a being (creations still light floor alone). The hover
cue now carries a verdict: gold outline and bright name for what the
cast can reach, cold slate for what stands beyond it. The workshop
poses it all: ?aim=1 arms a pretend cast and ?rival=x,y stands the
Rival wherever the shot needs them.

'All LOCK-type cards will work on it' was never wired: openSafes was
reset every turn and filled by nothing. A PICK LOCK or MASTER KEY

turn's end, with its own chronicle line; the dead never-emitted
safeOpened variant and its null humanize go. The automaton — H4EN's
Automaton II spent six turns grabbing at a locked lid saying 'I meant

While a card is selected (or an attack demands an answer) on a wide
screen, the chronicle and chat yield their column to a casting panel:
the card at reading size, attached numbers and modifiers as cards with
their total, and the whole guidance strip — targeting hints, pickers,
discard, cancel — moved in beside them. Counteractions get the same
panel with the incoming card, its power, and every counter played so
far. The under-board strip remains for phones, where a rail below the

The turn slip says 'turn spent' instead of counting phantom moves once
actions end; the attacking card (or the counter being countered) shows
in the respond slip so counters are chosen with eyes open; the absorb
chronicle line names the card it swallowed — which answers the KTXQ

Reuse Spell rightly found nothing to retrieve. POWER ATTACK gains its

the view. The svg's width is always set explicitly — fit × zoom,
remeasured by a ResizeObserver — which also cures the stale small
board left behind when the first-person pane closed: auto-sizing
against shifting CSS constraints is gone entirely.

The all-carried check ran only on the victim's own step, so a curse
whose last floor treasure was hauled off mid-turn kept its grip until
the idiot happened to move. The lift check now also runs at the pickup
that empties the floor, and at attach for a victim already standing on
their chest.

SLOW DEATH, WALKING DEAD, and IDIOT ride no damage or duration pipe, so
a FULL REFLECTION used to evaporate them; per the FAQ reflections act on
the cast, so the returned curse now opens its stack against the caster
like any reflected spell. Marked permanentCurse on the three defs; older
ledgers keep the evaporation.

Per the FAQ: a REVERSE riding the cast turns the whole curse — the
victim gains a point for every card drawn, as permanently as the bite.
The stack's reversed verdict now reaches onResolved, and the sustained
effect carries it in its data scratch. Older ledgers attached the
biting curse regardless and replay unchanged (pinned at deckRev 10).

A living room's link unfurls as an invitation (waiting rooms beckon a

War-story comments become timeless constraints (carrier rule, boobytrap
tell, remove-curse prescription); the rev changelog reunites under
GameConfig.deckRev; three hand-copied cardless stack literals fold into
openCardlessStack; the visionstone one-edge loop is shared via
throughOneEdge with the edge-target hairpin exclusion stated; drain()
moves to test helpers and replaces four inline copies; the butt-head
sweep test loses its dead scaffolding and its expect(refused || true)
tautology and now asserts both branches; a process-named suite is
renamed for the behavior it pins; dead .bezel-spacer CSS and the fx
effect's fossilized cleanup story go. No behavior changes: 304 engine
tests pass, 36/36 ledgers replay, web typecheck clean.

The public boobytrapPlaced event and every subsequent view shipped
the four token cells in casting order — with the real trap always
first, a tell readable by any client. Tokens are now stored and
broadcast in canonical cell order while the truth lives only in
realKey (and the caster's private event). Deterministic sort, no rng
touched, replays unaffected; a test casts in reverse order and checks
that position whispers nothing.

Eric's table ruling: BUTT-HEAD's ram IS movement — the charge walks
real corridors on the turn's legal legs (three plus numbers played)
and spends them, with the walked distance as the damage. The engine
allowed an unlimited-range homing goat, and game thirteen ended on an
eight-square ram its own caster ruled illegal. At rev 10 the cast
refuses beyond-reach targets up front, a victim who slips away leaves
the goat winded ("outran"), and the legacy test pins the old behavior
at rev 9 for the ledgers that recorded it. The skill also gains the
passivity audit: a turn that only draws is a lost turn.

The bite rides the stack now, so the three tests that expected an
instant sting drain the counteraction window before asserting the
wound. Green across the suite; the earlier commit shipped with these
red, which the pipeline should never have allowed — noted in the

The WARD's bite now rides the stack per its card text, cardless traps
carry their own damage through resolution, and the duel skill records
the goat: BUTT-HEAD's charge is cross-map physical that no spell-
counter answers, custody of one's own chest is a dial not a state, and
junction terrain outlives every spell cast near it. Ledgers verified.

Eric flagged both mid-game, and the second one killed me while he
typed: the scorch carried no damage kind, slipping past SOULSTONE
entirely, and the stone's own clamp guarded only from above — a bearer
already at 3 or less had no protection at all, the exact opposite of
"last three points cannot be taken by spell attack." At rev 8 the
floor holds from below (spell damage at or under the floor is simply
immune), and per the FAQ the scorch is a SPELL: it opens a
counteraction window, burns as magical fire, and FULL SHIELD parts it.
One victim's window at a time; the sweep finds the rest next pass.
Older games — including tonight's, where the flaw was fatal — replay
their recorded flames unchanged; all 34 ledgers verify.

Eric's final layer on the torus lesson: humans see center tiles and
aim there, so the center-perceived seat pays an attention tax — and a
strong player arbitrages the gap between how the board looks and how
it routes. The bots, running true-graph BFS, have neither the bias
nor the ability to exploit it.

Eric's framing after the six-player postmortem: on wrap boards one
sector shift breaks every curved warp at once — the card's payload is
the whole table's stale mental maps. The skill now says to hold it for
the moment an enemy plan leans on a wrap, and never to build a plan
whose only road is a warp while an opponent might hold it.

Eric, after game eleven: the warping edges mean there is no center
column — sew the right column onto the left and the geography is
identical. Seat-quality and distance judgments made in coordinates
are rendering artifacts; only the edge-and-warp graph is real. The
router always knew; the narrator now does too.

Game eleven's silent turns, diagnosed from the ledger. Automaton III
proposed DESTROY WALL at a wall its visionstone could see — but the
engine's edge-target casts never honored the stone, despite the
declared policy that it is the bearer's sight wherever sight is asked.
castSightEdge now dissolves one wall for the look, and the three raw
losToEdge gates (create-wall, destroy-wall, attacks on walls) route
through it, gaining visionstone and bent-corner sight alike. Automaton
II cast REMOVE CURSE with no patient and no ailment named; the rung
now writes the full prescription. Refusal-fallback loops read as idle
bots — both replays march again. Ledgers verified.

The card says it plainly — "You're the carrier! Disease caused by
spell does not affect you, only others" — but the engine cast it AT an
adjacent victim, making them the plague rat. At rev 7 it is a
self-cast on fear's pattern: no target, no counteraction window
("REFLECTIONs have no effect against this"), duration equals the
number, and sharing a square bites in both directions — the carrier
walking in, or anyone walking onto the carrier. Older ledgers hold
targeted disease casts with full stack exchanges, so the legacy attack
path survives for rev ≤6 games and all 33 ledgers replay clean. The
client offers the plain Cast button for it in rev-7 games.

Game ten went the distance: the champion unpacked my winning carry
with drop-object + adrenaline + teleport-exile, ferried his own
clause-vulnerable chest beside him rather than leave it stealable,
and banked at ten life through a point-blank fireball. Scars: verify
a card counters before trusting it (NO SPELL is a curse, not a
counter), carry through his reach only with real counteractions, and
re-route everything after a sector relocation rewrites the world.

Game nine, four rounds: Kestrel stole both of one bot's treasures —
two bankings for the win, the second doubling as the victim's
elimination. Concentrated theft beats spread theft: same points, one
fewer opponent. Also recorded: never chain move commands blind after

On the table the stone and the number land together; digitally the

DROP OBJECT's forced drop hardcoded onHomeOf null and skipped the
victory check — a treasure shaken loose over a home square neither
reported the banking nor triggered scoring or the captured-treasures
clause until something else prodded the engine. It now lands like any
drop: homeOwnerAt reported, checkVictory immediate.
And the stuck-game mystery from 38YP: a deploy restart left the
browser holding a half-dead socket that never fired onclose, so the
existing reconnect loop and masthead banner never engaged and a live
game wore a frozen face. The client now pings every 15s and force-
closes a socket silent for 45s, which wakes the reconnect machinery;
the server answers pong.

A number attached to SHIFT WAND silently stayed in hand: the two-stage
caster paths (shift-wand, teleport-opponent, mental-force) went through
withMods, which carried the modifier cards but not the separately-held
attached number. withMods now folds the number in wherever the call
site did not already carry it, so what the hand shows attached is what
the command carries — all of it, on every path.

Stepping on a face-down token flips it: a blank leaves the board the

until the real one detonates. The trap itself still waits, the caster
still strolls over everything unharmed, and the chronicle narrates
the flip so the table learns which squares stopped being scary.

STRENGTH's card says the grab "would be an attack," but the engine
resolved it instantly while punches opened counteraction windows — the
defender never got their say. At rev 6 the tear rides the stack like
any physical attack: the clutch roll waits out the counters, and only
an unstopped grab still in arm's reach of a still-laden defender gets
its wrestle. A TELEPORT escape now genuinely saves the chest (FULL
SHIELD does not — the card stops spell attacks only, and the grab is
physical). The automatons counter tears at their carried gold by not
being there when the hand closes. Narrowing, so rev-gated: games
pinned at rev 5 keep their instant tears and replay unchanged — all 29
ledgers verify.

Game six's table play, distilled into rungs. LOCK IN PLACE now roots
an enemy carrier closing on their home — the tempo theft that opened
game five, turned against the table. A pressed carrier of ANY
temperament casts MIST-BODY with its biggest number: an untouchable
delivery beats fear's radius, as the winning heist demonstrated. And
the pathfinder learns the thornbush is a jail, not a wade — entering
ends the turn, eats the next, and stings — so only a wizard with no
road at all dives in ("few will dive into one unless they are
desperate"). Also acquits Automaton II of game-six dithering: replay
showed its loop-de-loop was the true 13-step shortest path through a
walled quadrant.

Game six went to Kestrel 6-0 by heist: a five-turn mist-body robbed
the bank I had just consolidated while I sat in his thornbush having
read only the flattering half of the card. Scars recorded: thornbush
ends your turn and eats the next, mist is immune to attack-typed
counterplay so plan for where it lapses, forks that only threaten
your own assets are published to-do lists, and spoken analysis is a
shown card.

Game five's automaton stood four steps from a winning drop and instead
warped across the board to chase the bot carrying its other treasure —
two compounding brain faults. First, the thief-chase rung outranked
delivery even while carrying; a carrier now never chases. Second, the
pathing ladder fell back to "march on any enemy with a clean corridor"
before trying the true objective through hazards, so one thornbush on
the road to the thief rerouted the whole campaign toward a bystander.
The objective now exhausts its hazard-waded route before any generic
enemy march. Replayed the FRP3 moment: the brain marches E,N,E straight
home instead of W through the warp. Brains ship ungated; ledgers
verified.
The duel skill gains game-five scars: the captured-treasures
elimination clock, FEAR as a self-cast aura, key-cutters without keys,
and Kestrel's two-players-per-card table play.

Two lightning blasts at an adjacent wizard drew nothing in first
person. The fx pipeline staged the bolt correctly — then died unfired:
the server sends `events` and `state` back to back, the state message
re-derives `me`, and the fx effect tracked it, so Svelte ran the
cleanup — which cleared every pending timer and stripped in-flight
sprites — before the bolt's zero-delay start could fire. Every live
cast effect in the pane died this way since the pane was born.
The effect now tracks only the batch; everything else reads under
untrack, and timers are cleared only when the component goes down.

A stone-bearing automaton fired Blind through a warp mouth and one
wall, and the table saw nothing but the attack modal — the sight trace
only knew plain and bent-corner lines, so a legal shot read as a cheat.
When the attacker displays VISIONSTONE and no plain line exists,
stackSightTrace now finds the single edge whose removal opens the line
(warp legs included), draws the ray through it, and the keymap pulses
the dissolved wall so the answer to "how can he even see me?" is on
the board. Verified against the live LZ5R blind moment: warp mouths
at (0,2)W and (4,7)E, pierced wall V:3,8.

The engine learned to bend neutral spells, but the client only sent
aroundCornerInstanceId (and amplify/add/extend) on player-target casts
— applyMods was never called on the cell, edge, creature, two-cell,
trap, or teleport-opponent paths, so a SAFE aimed around the corner
went out bare and the engine rightly refused it. All targeted cast
dispatches now pass through withMods, so what the hand shows attached
is what the command carries.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_015RCWSTnb1KYTPyL4GmhGnF
Two holes, found when a SAFE cast at a treasure 'around the 180 degree
corner' refused with no line of sight (room LZ5R). First: the bend was
honored only in the attack path — every neutral resolve (creations,
summons, utilities, edge targets) checked straight sight and ignored
the attached card, though the card says 'any line of sight spell'.
castSight/castSightEdge now thread the bend through all of them, and
the chronicle narrates the neutral bend too.
Second: the bend itself pivoted only at cell centers, so the card's
flagship shot — doubling back up to 180 degrees around a wall's end —
never resolved: both legs graze the corner and die. The pivot may now
sit in the wall's open gap itself (bentSightThroughGap), which is what
rounding a corner physically is. Closed doors still block; two corners
still refuse.
The client lights bent-reachable squares for real now instead of the
old one-step-adjacency guess, creations included. Pure widening, so no
rev bump: every one of these casts was refused before, so no ledger
holds one. All 26 production ledgers replay clean; the LZ5R moment
itself replayed and the exact refused cast now lands.

A cast through the glass is aimed by the eyes that fired it — you

Casting a door onto the wall you already faced tripped the blocked-
sight cutaway: the camera leapt to film the wall from another
vantage, reading as a spin that put your back to your own door. In

and never past a quarter-turn — cutaways remain for things done TO
you.

Raising an edge-target card now makes every wall and door face
breathe faint gold in the pane — the cockpit's answer to the board's
edge handles — with hover still brightening the chosen face. And the

behind you via the keymap stays behind you, while deeds done TO you

Third pass, scoped from 7a32370. Three blind reviewers (engine, web,
server/tools) each concluded the work is coherent engineering with
seam-level tells; every finding was verified before touching a line.
Session biography left the comments: the bot brain's heuristics no
longer cite the opponent who taught them, the RNRX coma parenthetical
and the thief-chase citation are gone, the seat-wallet comments state
their invariants without the war stories, and process-named test
groups now name the behaviors they pin. The incident record lives
where history belongs — commit messages and the ledgers.
Structural dedup: one VISIONSTONE one-edge-sight loop serves both
LOS paths; one creature-arrival touch handler serves walking and
warp-stepping (error text aligned); one facingWedge helper draws both
keymap ribbons; one spriteVisibleInCol rule serves the draw pass and
the hover test (which also stops re-sorting per pointermove); and
deepestFacing joins the director, replacing four copied scans.
Test hardening exposed real rot the tells were hiding: the tight
CreatureState cast caught two literals with a bogus field masking
three missing ones; the number-hoarding rig had NEVER run (its
column didn't exist on seed 42 — it now carves its own geometry);
the bank-guard rig now drives the whole table to an arrival
assertion; the bent-trace test walls off straight sight so the bend
must answer. Silent `return`-on-rig-failure became loud throws, and
can-never-fail assertions were removed.
Sweep-up: the eyeTurn ghost comment, the stacked leave() doc
comments (leave now delegates to leaveLocal), the dead ternary in
the seat client, the kick handler's name-coercion drift, kick ledger
lines gain timestamps, archiveRoomFile reuses fileFor, the RULES_REV
alias retires in favor of the engine constant, hitTest un-exports,
the NUL-sentinel hover shape becomes an honest "none" variant, and
the steering holds get named constants. The bezel's stride cluster
also centers per the table's note.
288 tests, 24 ledgers verified, all workspaces typecheck.

Per the table's suggestion: chevrons and trays no longer overlay the
canvas — a frame holds them. The top bezel carries the ride controls,
the sharing-your-square portraits, and the hide button; tall turn
paddles flank the glass; the bottom bezel holds the strides, the
at-your-feet tray, hazard chips, the warp-step, and the key hint.
Every canvas pixel is now permanently hover-and-click target glass,
and the yield-while-targeting hack retires unneeded.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_015RCWSTnb1KYTPyL4GmhGnF
The drive chevrons are buttons over the canvas edges, and the
back-stride strip owns the bottom band — exactly where an adjacent
square's floor renders. With a card selected, hovering there showed
no target and a click would have STEPPED backward instead of casting
(the tacks report: the pane refused what the map allowed). While a
card is aimed the strips now fade and stop catching the pointer, so
every pixel of the pane hovers and clicks as a target; the arrow keys
still steer throughout.

Two blind spots close. The active body — wizard or ridden mount —
standing on a dimensional-warp token gets a "step through the warp"
button in the feet tray, dispatching warpStep for the wizard and
creatureWarpStep for the mount (the command the RNRX troll report
earned). And whatever you stand IN shows as a warning chip: tacks,
slime, dust, a pit, the ooze — the near plane's last secrets told.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_015RCWSTnb1KYTPyL4GmhGnF
A wizard or creature standing IN your square lives inside the
renderer's near plane — no sprite, nothing to click, though
same-square is exactly where punches, thieves, and a mount's claws
operate. A "sharing your square" tray now joins the cockpit above the
feet tray: co-located bodies as clickable portraits, routed through
the same target handler a sprite click uses — so a possessed skeleton
claws its square-mate and a wizard punches theirs, all from inside
the pane.

While the pane possesses a creature, the keymap's golden ribbon moves
to the mount's token — same shallow triangle, sized to the smaller

Stepping out of a creature's skull treated the return as a fresh cut,
and fresh cuts face the deepest corridor — spinning the rider 90
degrees from where they had been looking. The saddle now remembers:
your position and facing are saved at mount and restored verbatim on
every dismount path (the button, the turn passing, the mount dying),
with no cut and no re-aim.

The pane learns the menagerie. On your turn, a "ride" button appears
for each creature you command with moves or claws unspent; mounting
seats the camera in its skull facing its longest corridor, hides its
own hide from its eyes, and hands it the helm — chevrons and arrows
stride IT, an adjacent floor click steps it, and clicking an enemy
sharing its square lands its blow. A banner shows the mount's
remaining legs; one tap (or the turn passing, or the mount dying)
returns you to your own eyes, where the director reseats you fresh.
Two cockpit-dignity fixes from live play ride along: a cutaway to
your own body now plays only for things done TO you — dropping a
dagger no longer flings your eyes out of your skull — and a standing
camera is never "rescued" off a wall you deliberately faced; the
deepest-corridor default applies only to fresh cuts.

Stepping through a rim warp spun the live camera 180: the director
aimed along the displacement vector, and a top-to-bottom wrap's
vector points exactly opposite the walk. The exit facing now comes
from the warp's own geometry — the far mouth's inward direction —
so travel carries straight through plain wraps and rotates correctly
where boards were laid rotated; a dimensional token step keeps the
facing it entered with.

Per the table's taste: not a needle but a short wide golden triangle
hugging the token's leading edge — base as wide as the token itself,
rising a fifth of that width outward, turning with the pane's
quarter-turns.

Picking up an object ends the turn's actions AND movement — yet the
end-turn caution still tallied the unspendable points as regret. The
unspent-movement reason now stays quiet once actions have ended:
those points cannot be spent, only mourned.
And the raycaster has no downward pitch, so whatever lay in your own
square — a treasure, a dropped blade — was invisible from inside the
cockpit. An "at your feet" tray now rides the pane's bottom edge on
your turn: your square's floor treasures and objects as clickable
icons, each a one-tap pickup through the same commands the board's
buttons send.

The games-list reply pruned any wallet seat the server did not vouch
for — so one poll against a restarting (or wrong) server silently
deleted live credentials, the second seat-burning path this session's
server-squatting exposed. myGames now returns explicit verdicts:
a seat is voided only when its room EXISTS and refused that exact
token. Absent rooms earn no verdict and absent seats survive; the
wallet caps by age at fifty instead of by trust.

The client deleted its saved seat credentials on "no such room" — but
that error proves nothing about the seat: a restarting server, a
stale restore, or a wrong backend all say it, and burning the token
on a transient locked a live player out of a live game (room 22EC,
after this session's server-squatting incident). Now only "name is
taken" — this exact token tried and refused — clears the credential;
a not-found shows its error and keeps the key for the reconnect that
finds the room home again.

The keymap's facing wedge rendered BENEATH the wizard's own art, its
tips a pixel past the portrait's edge — present in the DOM, invisible
at the table. It now draws above the token as a proper compass
needle, tip half a cell out, dark-stroked for contrast. Verified in
rendered pixels this time, not element existence.

Hovering the pane now shows what a click would do: a wizard or
creature outlines in gold with its name at the crosshair, a wall or
door face lights across every column it owns, and a floor square
draws its perspective-true quad on the ground. Warp-bent ground still
targets truly but labels itself "through the warp" rather than
drawing a quad in the wrong geometry. And when a cell-target card is
selected, the ineligible ground dims in the 3D view itself — the same
litCells the board's shadow uses, rasterized into the floor pass.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_015RCWSTnb1KYTPyL4GmhGnF
Clicks in the first-person view now act. The renderer keeps what the
last frame knew — per-column depth, warp bends, every wall hit's edge,
every sprite's screen rect with its identity — and hitTest inverts the
projection: the nearest visible sprite answers as its wizard or
creature, a struck wall or door answers as its edge, and the ground
answers as the square under the pixel, warp-bent columns mapping their
virtual floor back to real cells through the warp's own rigid motion.
The pane hands each target to the very functions the top-down board's
clicks use, so pane and map can never disagree: click the floor ahead
and you walk there; click a door with a key selected and the lock
turns; click a wizard with an attack and the spell flies.
The keymap token now wears a golden wedge showing the camera's compass
quadrant — the cockpit and the chart always agree on which way you
face. Verified live: a floor click became a real move command in the
room ledger, edge clicks resolve and defer correctly, and the wedge
tracks quarter-turns.

A clockwork whose chosen command the engine refuses now stumbles
visibly: the refusal is logged server-side with the offending command
(the RNRX coma took three silent turns to notice), and the bot says
so in character at the table — "RECALCULATING." — instead of an
unexplained idle turn. And six event types that never spoke in the
chronicle find their lines: the wave's wash-back, thornbush entry,
dragged objects, the opening deal, stolen-card and revealed-hand
privates. Replay captions inherit them all through humanize.

Automaton II froze for three turns of game four: pathDenial proposed
HANDFUL OF TACKS on a square four steps away, the engine refused the
cast every turn ("you must be adjacent to scatter tacks"), and the
refusal-fallback loop read as a coma. The denial planner now offers
tacks only at the caster's feet — and the walker learns tacks are a
floor hazard, so a bot no longer mines its own doorstep and strolls
straight into it (also RNRX, seq 194-195). The frozen ledger moment
replays cured; a regression pins the planner's proposals to
engine-accepted commands. 288 tests; 24 ledgers verified.

Six instincts learned playing Kestrel live, taught to the automatons.
Bank guard: enemy gold banked at home is a scoreboard anyone can rob —
an empty-handed raider within two of a stocked bank pulls the walker
home (the predicate reads only enemy positions, the thief-chase
shuttle lesson), and pathDenial blockades the raider's road.
Repossession: the bot's own treasure banked by an enemy one delivery
from winning becomes a march goal, and the underfoot grab learns the
owner exception. Infrastructure: holding DIMENSIONAL WARP near home
in the early rounds, the bot anchors one mouth at its doorstep and
one beside the richest distant gold — the home-anchored superhighway
that won its teacher two games. Turn theft: a carrier one delivery
from winning eats LIGHTNING BLAST's stun over any bigger point total.
The teleport delivery: carrying with home a blink away but farther by
boot, it jumps the ambush and drops next command. Last-counter
thrift: a lone remaining counteraction at healthy life waits for
something big. A/B vs the prior brain across 100 mirrors: parity
(44-52, historical noise band) — the patterns are anti-human, and
mirrors don't play like humans. Three scenario tests pin the rungs;
287 tests; 23 ledgers verified.

Two lobby-lifecycle gaps from tonight's duels (a token lost to a
client bug left an unkickable ghost seat holding a chair in VQJW).
kickSeat: the host removes any other seat from an unstarted room —
the kick is a ledger line so restarts replay it, and a kicked live
socket is set adrift with notice. abandonRoom: the host dissolves a
lobby or a finished game; every member is notified and detached, and
the ledger is archived to rooms-abandoned/ — moved, never deleted.
The lobby shows hosts a ✕ per seat and an abandon-room control.
Proven live: kick with notice, kick surviving a server restart, and
abandonment archiving its ledger.

Kestrel has won two of three duels through dimensional-warp tokens
the ASCII view never rendered — a !! line now names every token pair.

destroy walls from range, and count deliveries, not flourishes.

Two findings from duel two (room UNS6). AROUND THE CORNER's bent
sight was legal but invisible: a 1-by-6 diagonal threading six open
edge spans read as an impossible shot because the table never saw the
line. The stack now records bentCorner, and stackSightTrace finds the
middle square and returns both legs; the board draws them with a
pulsing diamond on the corner the sight bent around — the answer to
"how can he even see me?" now covers the bent case.
Floor objects (a dropped wizardblade) showed a marker but answered
only a 450ms hold; a plain click did nothing. The marker itself is
now a click target that opens the same card peek.

Two findings from the first human-vs-Claude duel (room 9UA6). A
creature standing on a DIMENSIONAL WARP token had no way through it —
warpStep obeys only wizards. The new creatureWarpStep command steps a
commanded creature through the tokens under the walker's rules: one
move spent, solid stone refuses it, FEAR holds the beast, touch
effects greet whoever shares the landing; the board taps the paired
token like a rim mouth. Replay-safe ungated — a new command widens
nothing that was recorded.
MENTAL FORCE ate its card silently when the destination lay beyond
the victim's three walked spaces — the caster spent an attack and
learned nothing (ask me how I know). Rev 5 refuses the impossible
destination up front with the card kept; when the victim slips out of
range between cast and resolution, a mentalForceFizzled event tells
the table what happened instead of nothing. All 20 production ledgers

Eric beats the clockwork four games in five; these close the holes he
walks through. The treasure race: no number card is hoarded for a war
chest when no enemy stands within six squares, and never against the
delivery that wins the game outright. The kill: bestAttack now shops
every number and the amplify separately, preferring a killing blow at
minimal spend (with three points of soak margin, or an ABSORB undoes
it) over maximum splash, banking the big numbers for the next fight.
The last stand: a blow that would be lethal escalates past every
thrift threshold — any counter that can save the clockwork is cheap
at that price, ABSORB's three soaked points included when they are
exactly the margin. The race denial: TELEPORT OPPONENT and DROP
OBJECT now fire on any carrier one delivery from winning, not just
the thief of the bot's own gold. And the MASTER KEY goes on display
the turn it is drawn, opening every workable lock on the march for
free. A/B against the prior brain across 300 mirror games: parity
(the features aim at human play patterns mirrors rarely exercise);
three scenario tests pin the new instincts. Ships ungated — brains
choose commands, ledgers record them.

The chronicle stops judging what is share-worthy: the 👁 now rides
every turn's opening line — headers, skipped turns, extra turns — and
the players decide which moments deserve reliving. The game-winning

one-eye bookkeeping retire with the judgment.

Both PICK LOCK and MASTER KEY promise the door relocks behind the
walker — not that it stands unlocked for the turn. Passing through
any door unlocked this turn now shuts it at once at the walker's
back, unless a hand holds it open; the pick-and-peek stays (an
unpassed door keeps its opening until turn's end), and holding via a
targeted cast works as ever, displayed key included. The displayed
key's own walk-through likewise leaves no lingering opening for
bystanders — their peek needs a held door. Frozen behind rev 4 so
stored games keep their turn-long openings. 18 ledgers verified; 277

"Display Immediately," says the card — now the key lives up to it.
Cast bare (a new Display button beside the hold-the-door checkbox),
it goes straight on display; once displayed, it turns in every lock
its bearer walks through — no more casting at each door — with the
door relocking behind them at turn's end like any picked lock, and
the doorUnlocked event still swinging the door in the reels. Cast at
an adjacent door it still works one lock like PICK LOCK, including
holding the door open for others. A JAMmed LOCK refuses it as ever,
and the adjacent peek through workable locks already rode the rev-2
sight rules. Replay-safe ungated: bare casts were never recorded
(they were refused), displayed cards still count against the hand
limit, and walking through a locked door only widens what is
accepted.

The client always offered CHAOS from the hint bar without a target,
and the engine refused it: "attack spells target a player". Not this
one — cast bare, it sweeps every other living wizard into the pile,
each offered their FULL SHIELD sit-out in turn order from the caster.
No stack forms; full shields only ever excluded a player from the
storm, so the queue is the whole defense. The older player-targeted
form stays accepted, so stored games replay unchanged. The scramble
joins the chronicle's notable events — a turn that redeals every hand
earns its eye.

An automaton beside the wizard carrying its gold shuttled on and off
their square until every move was spent — the chase goal flipped
between "the thief's cell" and "the gold" with each step, because it
keyed on whether the thief stood underfoot. The chase now claims the
march only while the blow it exists to deliver is still live (an
attack in hand, the turn's attack unspent, casting open): those gates
hold still as the clockwork walks, so the goal cannot flip mid-march.
Caught with the strike live, it stands its ground; otherwise the gold
has its legs for the turn. A regression walks the exact scene and
forbids the A-B-A shuttle. The bot-vs-bot harness also learns to
route WARD's pending moment to the treasure's owner.

VISIONSTONE only ever lit the attack path: casterLos knew it, but
every sight check routed through gameLos — creations like THORNBUSH,
dispels, CREATE DOOR, STONE TO WATER — refused "no line of sight"
through the bearer's one wall. gameLos now honors the stone whenever
the viewer bears it, at every revision: widening what a cast may
target never changes how a recorded command replays, so games already
in flight get the fix at once. Only the ambush's mid-move eye is
frozen per game (rev 3) — springing lands in the ledger's flow, and
stored games must replay their blindness. All 18 production ledgers

The engine always honored the stone — its bearer casts through exactly
one wall or door — but the targeting shadow never did: sightedCellsFor
kept every square behind a wall dimmed, so the aid told the bearer the
stone wasn't working. The sighted set now retries each unseen square
with a single edge removed, mirroring casterLos; the automaton shares
the function, so bots see through their stones too. Two tests pin the
engine ruling and the client parity.

Teleport wraps the maze's rim: its four counted squares now step
through warp mouths like any doorway, so a wizard can blink off one
side of the board and onto the other.
A wizard at a door's threshold may pull it open and peek — lock
removed, door unlocked this turn, or PICK LOCK / MASTER KEY in hand —
without stepping through. The door still hangs shut to everyone down
the hallway; only a HELD door is propped open for every eye. Gated
behind rules rev 2 (now sourced from the engine's CURRENT_RULES_REV)
so stored games replay with their doors dark; the client's sight
mirror learns the same peek.
Fear no longer nails a cornered wizard to the floor: a step closer to
the dread is allowed when it walks the shortest way out of it, so
escape can round a corner. Standing outside and stepping in is still
refused.

Milestone two opens with touch. Faint chevrons live along the pane's
four edges — left and right strips quarter-turn the camera (always),
top and bottom stride forward and back (your turn only, through the
same commands, cautions, and wall-bounces as the keys). Quiet under a
resting eye, brighter under a pointer, generous under a thumb.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
FPV play begins. On your turn the pane takes the helm: arrows or WASD
— quarter-turns are free camera, a stride issues a REAL move command
through the same cautions and refusals as a board click, and a wall
bounces you with the table's own toast. While the player steers, the
director keeps its hands off the idle facings; your own magic still
turns your head, and cutaways still fire. The layout inverts to match
the mode: the 3D view is the primary window into the game, the
top-down board reduced to a keymap beneath it, with the control hint
in the pane's corner. Typing in chat is never hijacked.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Eric's layout call: the first-person pane wears exactly the board's
width, directly above it. A shrink-wrapped column stacks the two, with
the pane held out of the intrinsic sizing (width:0, min-width:100%) so
the BOARD alone decides how wide the column is; the canvas keeps its
aspect as it scales.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A pane above the board plays the game through your own eyes while you
play it — the board below stays the tactical truth. One new module,
fpv/director.ts, extracts the reel's directorial instincts (the aim
ladder, the hurl test, the glide gatherer) so the replay and the live
pane share one eye and can never drift; Replay is refactored onto it
unchanged. LiveFirstPerson.svelte feeds the shared FirstPerson
renderer from the live event stream: every batch plays through the
same fx pipeline as the instant replay — projectiles, door swings,
conjurations growing — while the camera walks your strides, turns to
your aims and to actors in your sight, cuts away (with your own body
in frame) to deeds beyond it, and never idles nose-to-brick. Bodies
glide between server views. A ✕ hides the pane; the liveFp preference
(on by default) brings it back.

The eye earned its place — every notable turn offers its reel unless a
player has switched it off, and an explicit off stays respected.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The per-column sprite gate blanked an overlay's WHOLE column wherever a
nearer body touched it — a treasure chest masked the warp veil all the
way to the ceiling. Each column now remembers its nearest sprite's
vertical span as well as its depth, and every overlay family (veils,
ghost walls, lintels, rising conjurations) draws in segments above and
below the covered band, sampling the matching slice of its texture — so
the shimmer wraps the chest instead of vanishing over it.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The warp veil painted over a wizard standing before the mouth — the
overlay passes ran after the sprites with no knowledge of their depth.
Each column now remembers its nearest sprite, and every overlay family
(veils, ghost walls, doorway lintels, rising conjurations) skips the
columns where a body stands closer, while still washing translucently
over anything beyond.

Three blind reviews over the first-person arc, every finding verified
against the source. History-narrating comments made timeless or cut;
the stacked BUDDY comment collapsed to one voice. Dead code out: the
orphaned FACE copy, the DIR_ANGLE duplicate, the dead loop-counter
poke, the impossible-state sentinel. The never-produced "warp" hit
kind resolved the right way — warp mouths now hang a translucent veil
of the painted warp texture, so art that never rendered finally does.
Types tightened (SlabStrike named once, ShareData rides CatchUpStep,
botTier loses its casts), the gallery reads MATERIALS instead of a
hand-copied list, the chronicle resets through one helper, a
superseded share mint rejects instead of stranding, and the conjured
safe gains the growth key its siblings had. Tests lose a triple
assignment, a tautology, and two self-swallowing regex alternatives.
The sprite spec — which still told the artist to paint for additive
compositing the renderer no longer uses — now describes the renderer
that exists.

One instant-replay eye per turn keeps the chronicle uncluttered — but
the turn that WINS the game is the turn people want to relive, and if
its wizard did something notable earlier, the eye had already been
spent by the time the crown line printed. The game-winning line now
carries its own eye regardless, fireworks and all.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Every reel caption now carries the acting wizard's standee at its left
— the same token art the board plays with, framed in the caption's own
ink — and the burned-in video caption bar gets the portrait too, so a
shared clip names its actors by face as well as by name.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Eric caught the whole-game reel opening in the wrong head: turn zero's
turnStarted fires in the deal, before any step, so the boundary scan
found nothing and fell back to the share's pov prop — the WINNER, whose
eyes then watched the first player's whole turn from across the maze.
When no boundary precedes the current step, the owner is now read from
the reel's first turnEnded, which turn zero always contains.

Whole-game share links minted fine and then 404ed: the share page
rebuilds through catchUpSteps, whose seat check never learned the
SPECTATOR exemption momentSteps got — the anonymous viewer held no
seat, so the rebuild refused and the page said "no such replay". The
spectator is now admitted to finished games' full replays, public
knowledge only, same as single turns.

treasureDropped and objectDropped played as nothing — the gold simply
teleported from chest to floor between frames. A drop now glints (the
spark blooming where it lands, a beat after the blow when combat
knocked it loose), and a wizard dropping at their own feet takes the
cutaway: a third-person shot of them setting the prize down — or
spilling it. When the reel's wizard strikes the spill loose from
someone else, the attack-facing already has the victim in frame, so
the treasure falls on camera.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A carried treasure rendered nowhere in first person — the thief hauling
your gold looked exactly like an innocent. The treasure now rides its
carrier at chest height, drawn just in front of their card (a sort bias
wins the tie), gliding along with their tweened strides and showing
through warp mouths like everything else. The workshop rehearses it
with ?carry=Rival.

Eric asked what else happens off-camera, and the audit found a family:
a wizard's creature marching or clawing, objects dragged from afar,
punches (always same-square, so also invisible), treasure grabbed at
one's own feet, the Thumb of God's landing. Rather than patch each,
one rule retires the class: when nothing else aims the reel's own
wizard's step, the camera aims wherever the fx layer is about to play
its first impact or projectile landing — so every effect that exists,
and every one added later, gets watched by construction. Creature
marches and treasure grabs (which play no fx) get explicit aim rungs;
own-square deeds keep taking the cutaway.

Two A9WK summons — fire imp, shadow — landed on their casters' OWN

cell is closer than the near plane, so both materialized invisibly.
The aim now reads creatureCreated (the summon's true landing, whatever
the cast's target says), and a deed on the wizard's own square takes
the CUTAWAY: the camera steps outside, stands down the deepest
corridor, and — for cutaway frames only — the reel's own wizard
renders too, so you watch the imp grow at your own feet with yourself
in the shot.

Eric's rosebush-through-a-wall, hunted to two roots. A camera-facing
billboard viewed obliquely rotates out of its square, so cell-bound
volumes are now windowed to the exact segment where their plane
crosses their own cell — no end may paint beyond it. And the real
smoking gun: the near-bias that lets a hedge win the tie against the
wizard standing in it was applied to the OCCLUSION depth too, letting
the hedge cheat a fifth of a cell through any neighboring wall. The
bias now orders sprites among themselves only; walls always judge the
true depth.
Also answered: edge-deeds turn the head. Picking or jamming a lock,
unlocking with the Master Key, raising or razing or drowning a wall —
any edge-bearing deed by the reel's own wizard now aims the camera at
that edge's midpoint before the outcome shows, same as any other
target.

Nothing appears fully-formed anymore. Summoned creatures and conjured
terrain volumes scale up from a sliver, bottom-anchored, as if growing
out of the floor. Conjured SOLIDS — walls, firewalls, stone, and yes,
illusion walls for whoever they fool — RISE: while growing, the rays
pass over them so the room behind stays visible, and the renderer
draws the young face climbing bottom-up with violet swirls running
across it, solidifying as it tops out. Every creation also blooms the
shimmer at its cell. The growth is driven through the fx channel, so
the director's slate applies: things grow only once the camera faces
them.
Two camera notes squared away en route: the slate-setter read back the
state it had just written, registering itself as its own dependency
(an update-depth ping-pong under fast stepping) — locals now; and a
reel whose FINAL step strides into a corner gets one more turn after
the walk lands, to a view worth ending on.

DUKK's floor-to-ceiling white sliver, decoded: the sprite gate only
asked "did this column's ray warp?" — so a REAL body standing in front
of a warp mouth was clipped out of the mouth's columns (leaving a
baffling sliver of a huge close sprite), and a body virtualized
through warp A could paint columns bent by warp B. Every column now
remembers WHICH warp bent its ray and how far away that mouth stood;
a real body paints a column only nearer than its mouth (in front of
the window), and a virtual one only through its own warp's columns,
beyond the mouth. Projectile legs carry the same identity.

Eric dispelled an object and it un-rendered off-screen, before the
camera had turned to look. The reel now sequences like a director:
each step the camera writes a slate — how long the PREVIOUS world
stays on screen while the eyes turn toward the recipient — and both
the view swap and the step's effects reveal together when the turn
lands. Cutaways hold a beat of the world-before too, so a thing
destroyed across the maze is SEEN existing, then seen ending. Cuts
that open the reel still reveal at once.

Eric walked a five-player board's corner warp and the world stretched.
The lane rule — carry the along-the-edge offset through unchanged —
is only correct for half the side pairings: for the rest (N to N,
E to N, and their kin, the ones five-player boards deal), the proper
rotation lands the entry axis head-to-head against the exit axis, and
preserving the raw lane smuggled a REFLECTION into the traversal —
rays crossing over at the mouth, parallax inverted, the far room
swimming. warpLaneMirrored computes the pairing's sign from the
rotation itself; castRay mirrors the lane where required, and
warpMotion anchors the far mouth at its opposite corner to stay the
same pure rotation — so sprites and projectile legs agree with the
rays again. The workshop grows ?players=2..6 to stand on any table
size (the mirror-class mouths live on the five-player boards).

Rubble drawn to span its gap stopped short of the posts, and the
ledger of blame is arithmetic: billboard widths scaled by the vertical
pixel ratio (H/depth) when horizontal pixels-per-world-unit is the
focal length over depth — about 1.4x larger. Every "one cell wide"
volume rendered at seventy percent. Sprites that declare an aspect now
mean WORLD width and use the horizontal scale, so rubble reaches post
to post and hedges brush both walls; plain square token sprites keep
their familiar pixel shape.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The audit Eric called for, delivered whole. Open doors are DOORWAYS
now: stone jamb posts at both ends and a lintel hung across the top
(paintable as textures/doorframe.png), the way through open to the eye.
Battle damage shows — the engine's per-edge wallDamage wears painted
cracks into any wall, heavier as harm mounts. The wall safe stands as
a strongbox volume instead of a flat token. Hedges take root: an
underbrush floor decal covers the whole square beneath them (Eric's
report — a billboard at center depth can't reach the floor trapezoid's
near edge), and the hedge itself widens past the cell. Rubble
stretches across the fallen wall's full gap, corner piles landing at
the posts, exactly as its art was painted.
The first-person effect gaps close: victory now throws SIX fireworks
climbing over the winner's home with gold washing the screen; sector
rotations flash violet and heave the whole world; the Thumb of God
lands with a burst and a shudder; walls conjured from nothing rise in
stone dust; and every hazard pratfall plays — pit falls (with a dark
drop and jolt for the faller's own eyes), ooze slips, tack yelps,
thorn snaps, slime, dust. Dying in first person fades long and dark.
And the whole tale travels: a finished game's full replay carries the
share button too — turn -1 mints a link to every turn of the game,
each through its wizard's own eyes, titled for the winner's triumph.

The wraith reel still ended in a wall, and the ledger showed why: its
final step CUTS home from the cutaway at the summon site — a nine-cell
leap — and the camera read that leap as a walk, faced along it into
the masonry, and counted itself aimed, which silenced the closing-shot
rescue. Leaps no longer set facing: any step that will cut computes
willCut first, strides only turn the eyes within a stride's reach, and
a cut that lands with nothing aimed always re-picks its view from the
new position. The wraith turn now closes down a corridor with the
wraith itself in frame.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A reel that ends nose-to-brick ends badly — especially recorded. On
the final step the idle-gaze rescue raises its standard (a wall inside
1.2 cells is a bad last frame) and scores the four cardinals by more
than corridor depth: a visible wizard or creature weighs most, loose
treasure half, each behind a real line-of-sight check. The camera
turns once to the best view and only if one clearly beats what it has
— a wizard walled in on every side keeps its poor view rather than
hunting forever.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
"You draw Waterbolt" belongs in the chronicle, not on a replay whose
canvas gets recorded and passed around — the reel's captions now skip
the private-draw events (drawn, dealt, stolen) and say only how many.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The window's straddle commands hold more than the turn they open and
close: the opener carries the previous wizard's last draws, the closer
the next wizard's first upkeep — so every instant replay ran on into
the following turn (and, with the camera now following the turn-taker,
jumped into the next wizard's head for the overrun). momentSteps trims
both straddles at the boundary events: the reel opens on "X's turn
begins" and stops at X's turnEnded, keeping only what belongs to X.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Eric's rule, applied everywhere: every reel — moment, catch-up, whole
tale — follows the wizard whose turn it is, the pov switching at each
handover as boundaries scroll past. And the J8LL mystery dies with it:
turn zero's opening boundary lives in the DEAL, before any command, so
scanning a moment's steps found the NEXT turn's start instead and put
the camera in the wrong wizard's head. momentSteps now names the owner
from the very boundary that opened the turn — counted through the deal
— and carries it to the client and the share page, where it also fixes
the same latent mis-titling.
Also aboard: the cutaway shot. When the eyes aim at something they
cannot see — a wraith summoned across the maze, a spell through walls —
the camera cuts to the target's cell for that beat, standing back down
its deepest corridor, and cuts home on the next step. The wraith no
longer materializes off-screen.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The game log's sixty-line window was a render cap, not a limit of what
the client holds — a rejoin replays the whole game into memory. The
chronicle now renders every line back to the deal, and its auto-scroll
grows manners: it follows the newest line only while the reader sits at
the bottom, and holds its place once they scroll up into history.

The flat token billboards give way to terrain that inhabits the room.
Pits, slime, tacks, and the dimensional warp's rings are painted INTO
the flagstones — the home-tile decal pass grows into a general per-cell
overlay grid, one texture per cell, alpha-blended texel by texel. Thorn
and rose hedges fill their square wall to wall at half height, drawn
with a near-bias so the wizard standing among the thorns peeks over the
top. The killer ooze rises as a full translucent cube of jello, bricks
and bodies visible through it; dust billows; and each dimensional warp
mouth throws an additive pillar of violet light up from its floor ring.
Billboards learn aspect, translucency, glow, and draw-order bias to
carry it all.
Nine paintable starters ship — four floor decals under textures/, five
standing volumes under terrain3d/ (spec updated for the artist, hedges
wide, jello solid, warpglow as light) — shown in the token workshop,
rehearsable in place with /?fpv&terrain=thornbush@3,7;jello@4,7.

Host and x-forwarded-proto are attacker-writable and were interpolated
raw into the share page's meta attributes. The proto must now be
literally http or https, and the host is HTML-escaped like everything
else that reaches the head.

The share button lands on the instant replay. One click mints a slug —
persistent, unguessable, one per (room, turn) — and copies a /watch
link anyone can open: the server rebuilds exactly that turn for the
nameless SPECTATOR, public knowledge only, none of the rest of the
game visible. The page arrives with its OpenGraph card pre-baked into
the head (crawlers never run the app): the turn's title and round in
the text, and an og.png of the maze itself — cells, walls, doors, warp
mouths, homes, standees — painted server-side and PNG-encoded with
nothing but node's own zlib. The viewer page wears its chrome: the
WIZ-WAR masthead linking home, the turn's title, the reel opening
straight into the turn-owner's eyes with a "watch it again" loop, and
a footer that says what this table is and deals the visitor in.
The share page loads as its own entry so a shared link never drags the
full app's socket appetite along; the reel's modal scrim learns to
stand in a page instead of over one.

A wizard who has seen through an illusion no longer walks toward empty
air where the board shows a dashed ghost: the ray records the first
known-illusion edge it crosses without stopping, and the renderer
stands a wall there at one-fifth opacity, violet ripple running through
it, drawn over the sprites so bodies show through its breath. Untested
illusions get the same tell the board gives — a faint shimmer on their
solid face, maybe stone, maybe not — while a believed illusion stays
honest brick. The workshop rehearses it with ?illusion=H:2,8.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A9WK's mystery, solved by Eric: the wizard walked through an illusion
wall it disbelieves, and the viewer — still deceived — watched the
camera slide through solid stone. The deception stays intact, but the
crossing now performs: any body stepping through an edge the VIEWER
holds as wall (which can only be an illusion the mover saw through)
shimmers on both faces, with the stone-gray wash when the eyes
themselves cross. Same dressing Pass Wall wears.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Two more camera flaws, read straight out of A9WK's clip against its
ledger. The reel's first run measured the leap from the camera's
uninitialized origin as a stride and FACED ALONG IT — an arbitrary
heading that landed nose-first in a wall, and counted as aimed, so the
corridor fallback never ran. A stride only turns the eyes once the
camera is real. And idle beats are rescued generally: whenever nothing
aims the eyes and they would sit staring at a wall closer than a
stride, they turn down the deepest corridor instead — so pacing into a
dead-end cell no longer parks the whole screen inside brick.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A9WK's clip showed the flaw: a turn owner who casts without moving left
the camera staring into the wall its default heading happened to face,
for the whole turn. The facing ladder grows two rungs: the eyes turn
toward their OWN magic — a cast's target or cell, an attack's defender,
a thrown object's landing — and when a reel opens on a stationary
wizard with nothing to aim at, the camera faces the longest corridor
from where they stand instead of hardcoded east.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Hitting record used to capture from wherever the reel stood — at the
end, the auto-stop fired a beat later and saved one second of the
final frame. Recording now rewinds to the top and rolls the whole
reel. And the container asks for MP4 (H.264) first, the format every
phone and platform plays, keeping WebM only where the browser cannot
mux it; the extension follows the container.

Entertainment polish for the instant replay, all through one wizard's
eyes. Doors now slide open along their own edge — Wolf3D style — when
anyone steps through in a reel, hold for the crossing, and swing shut;
the raycaster takes a per-edge openness map and doors carry their
texture with them, leaving a sliver of jamb at the far post. A wall
that dies bursts into stone and shakes the camera, then leaves a mound
of rubble at the fallen edge for the rest of the reel (a tenth
paintable sprite, drawn opaque — debris, not light). Jammed locks
seethe: a rusty pulse across the wood, keyed off the view's own door
states. Walking THROUGH a wall shimmers on both faces and washes the
walker's own screen stone-gray. And every home base wears its owner's
emblem on the flagstones — a near-white paintable overlay tinted by
wizard color per cell in the floor cast.
Testing surfaced a real ghost: a body standing near a far warp mouth
also rendered at its virtual position, which can overlap real
corridors — the depth buffer alone cannot clip it. Every column now
remembers whether its ray bent, and a sprite draws only where its warp
side matches the column's; projectile legs carry the same flag.

The dream feature lands, behind a preference that ships off for now.
The chronicle's lines grow structure — each knows its turn, counted by
the same boundary events on both ends of the wire (the server counts
the deal's own events too, or every number would sit one turn behind).
The first notable line of a turn — combat, spectacle, a targeted cast
— wears a small eye; clicking it asks the server for that one turn's
steps, rebuilt and redacted like any reel, and the replay opens
STRAIGHT into first person through the eyes of the wizard whose turn
it was: their position, the viewer's knowledge, nothing private leaked.
It plays that turn and stops. Save-video and the board toggle come
along for free.
Two camera bugs die with it: the replay tween effect tracked its own
writes, restarting the ease every frame until walks decayed into the
slow wall-piercing drift Eric saw — untracked reads run one tween per
step now. And the reel camera follows whichever eyes the reel wears,
not always your own.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A stride into a warp mouth now carries the walker out of the paired
mouth mid-glide, body turned exactly as the rays turn — canWalk admits
a rim edge only where a mouth waits, and the crawler splits the stride
at the crossing. And with painted conjuration sprites arriving, the fx
pass composites them normally instead of additively: painted art is
ink, not light, and additive blending would bloom its outlines white.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Three polishes aimed at the instant-replay dream. Other wizards and
creatures now GLIDE between steps in first person instead of blinking
cell to cell — a stride tweens, a teleport still simply arrives. A
projectile whose sight line runs through a warp now flies as two
simultaneous legs under the mouths' rigid motion, so the fireball
plunges into the opening on one side and bursts from the pair on the
other, whichever room the camera stands in. And the saved video is no
longer a bare canvas grab: it composites into a shareable 1280x720
frame with the step's caption burned in — gold actor name, the reel's
own words — and the game's name in the corner, so a clip passed along
explains itself.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The reel's first-person mode now shows the fight, not just the rooms.
The board flourishes' event map is recast into world space (fx3d):
fireballs, bolts, and thrown things streak caster to target as glowing
billboards; landings swell and fade; blows that land on YOU wash the
screen red and jolt the camera; warp-steps and teleports flash violet;
a hurled body glides fast and straight with its eyes held steady. Nine
paintable conjuration sprites ship at public/fx3d (spec for the artist
in research/), shown in the token workshop beside the masonry.
Three rough edges sharpened along the way: sprites now project through
warp mouths under the same rigid motion the rays use, clipped by the
depth buffer to the opening; fire and warp surfaces pull a different
texture slice per world cell so a long blaze reads as one; and the
replay camera only turns toward an actor its eyes could actually see.
Two more gifts: the reel can record its first-person canvas straight
to a downloadable WebM (⏺ save video), and the About tab now shows
visitors the way into the three workshops.
One buried mine defused: rAF hands frame-start times that can precede
the tween's own clock, and a zero-length turn divided by it — one NaN
facing poisoned every ray black and re-triggered the camera effect
forever. The tween clamps and guards its phases now.

The loader walks MATERIALS to swap painted files over the procedural
bakes, and the two ground planes were never added to it — so floor.png
and ceiling.png sat served-but-unread while the renderer kept its own
flagstones. Eight materials in the list now, all eight paintable.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Zero-width planes vanish when seen end-on. Each wall edge now rises as
a thin box — masonry thickest, door joinery slimmer, fire a mere sheet
— so the ray march tests the slabs of every cell it passes through and
wall ENDS present a cap face. Corners, jambs, and junctions read as
stone with depth instead of paper. Warp traversal, stone cells, and
the rim keep their crossings; the frame budget doesn't notice.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
True floor-casting replaces the gradients and the projected seam lines:
every screen row lies at one depth, walked with a constant world-space
step and sampled from floor.png underfoot and ceiling.png overhead —
each maze cell wearing exactly one tile, so the artist's border IS the
cell seam. Distance shade and fog fold into the same per-pixel pass,
pixel buffers cache per texture (re-read when a painted file lands),
and the whole frame still clears 60fps with room to spare. Flagstones
and dark slabs ship as the starter files beside the other masonry.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Chiseled stone for the walls and rim, oak planks with a riveted iron
band for the doors, rough block for filled stone, licking flame, and a
violet spiral for the warps — dropped into public/textures/ with no
code touched, exactly as the pipeline intended.
The six materials move out of the renderer into public/textures/*.png —
repaint any of them (any size; the sampler reads each file's own scale)
and refresh, exactly as the token SVGs work. fpv/textures.ts keeps the
procedural bake as the shipped default and the stand-in while files
load, and the /?tokens gallery grows a masonry section showing the set
beside the tokens they will someday match.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Walls wear baked 64-texel textures sampled per column — running-bond
brick for the maze, darker courses for the rim, rough blocks for filled
stone, planked doors with an iron band and handle, flame-streaked fire,
swirling violet for the warps — drawn crisp with smoothing off, shaded
by distance and animated by overlay. The floor shows its tile seams:
grid lines projected onto the ground plane, occluded by the walls that
stand on them. And the workshop walks like the game plays: a tap glides
exactly one square with an eased stride, a turn swings a clean quarter,
held keys queueing the next move as each settles.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Sight now runs THROUGH the warps as the rules say: a ray reaching a
mouth re-enters at its pair and marches on, the far side swimming in
violet haze. The floor's furniture joins the scene — bushes stand tall,
safes squat, slime and tacks and pits lie low, dropped daggers glint.
And the replay reel gains a 👁 toggle: relive the catch-up or the whole
tale through your wizard's eyes, the camera turning before it strides,
easing between cells, cutting on teleports, and turning toward whoever
acted while you stood still. The /?fpv workshop grows &demo=1 — two
automatons play a stretch and the real Replay component reruns it.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Stage one of the replay vision: a canvas raycaster over the GameView —
walls on edges marched by DDA, doors with lintels, firewalls that
flicker, rim warp mouths that shimmer violet, token art billboarded and
occluded per column, torchlit vignette. It renders the view a player
would be SENT, so an illusion this wizard has not seen through stands as
solid as stone in first person too. The /?fpv workshop free-flies a
dealt maze with wall collision, a minimap eye-cone, and ?seed=&x=&y=&dir=
to stand the camera anywhere. Next: drive it from the replay reel.

ui-coverage.test.ts fails the suite the moment an engine event has no
client handling (allowlist entries require a written reason) or a
cell/edge-targeting card is missing from the board's aim sets — the
one-at-a-time bug reports become a red test instead. The wizwar-audits
skill documents the three house audits (UI coverage, ledger inspection
by room code, the determinism gate); .claude/skills/ joins the repo so
they travel with it.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A sweep of all 142 engine events against the client found three more
telepath-class drops and eight silent chronicle gaps. THOUGHT STEAL's
plunder and a kill's hand-spoils now get the reveal modal (generalized
from the mind-read one — title, note, the cards fanned out); your own
end-of-turn draw names its cards in the log. The mute events speak:
dispels, walls of fire rising/burning/guttering, filled squares,
crashing waterwalls, clattering thrown objects, and REUSE SPELL's
retrieval. Also verified clean: every param-taking card has collection
UI, and every cell/edge-targeting card is aimable on the board.

Ending a turn on a treasure nobody picked up now asks first (unless the
auto-grab preference is about to take it, or the grab would be refused —
laden arms, weakness, spent actions, glue, a locked safe, or your own
home where the chest already scores; the view learns gluedCells and
openSafes so the check is honest). Stepping onto ground that bites —
thornbush, tacks, pit, ooze — warns with the exact price, unless you are
mist. And the sticky draw picker no longer quietly starves anyone: a
draw below what would fit asks too.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
An optional confirmation (on by default, one checkbox to silence) catches
the classic table groans before they land: ending the turn with movement
unspent, ending it with a hand too full to take the draw, and walking off
— or ending on — your own home with a deliverable treasure still in your
arms. Preferences also learn a default automaton skill, remembered from
either the prefs panel or the lobby's tier picker.

The engine sent the caster a private handRevealedPrivate event carrying
the victim's cards; the client logged the public line and dropped the
private one on the floor. The stolen mind is now a modal — the cards
fanned out, once, until dismissed — in the trap-notice pattern.

Game 6XDY's prisoners expose a nest of turn-burners. The pathfinder
treated pits, ooze, bushes, and slime as walls in transit, so bots stood
"trapped" in pockets any human would wade out of: the march now falls
back to a teeth-gritted hazard route when no clean road exists. Bots no
longer aim attacks into (or out of) a thornbush's shelter the engine
refuses; WIZARDBLADE learns it is a blade (same square only); a cursed
IDIOT skips every rung the curse would refuse instead of burning turns
on them; BUDDY's orientation is righted — whoever pacted YOU is
untouchable, your own pacts are merely precious — and a thief standing
underfoot no longer becomes a null destination that freezes two laden
wizards on the same square forever.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The card's second power was never built. New tearTreasure command: with
STRENGTH on you, in the same square as a carrier, the tear spends your
attack; the victim keeps the treasure only on a D4 roll of 1. Per the
FAQ it is not a pickup (your turn's actions continue), and full or
weakened arms tear it loose onto the floor instead. A torn treasure's
warded owner gets their window, blind grabs flail like blind punches,
and the automatons wrestle too. A new command breaks no stored ledger,
so live games gain the grip at once.

Blind reviews over the rev-37..40 features and the gate collapse. The
scripted surgery's scars come out: bare brace blocks unwrapped (with one
hiding an unreachable scrambleHands), the amputated comment healed, the
dead events parameter unthreaded from the illusion-sight chain, the
laziness probe in perceivedBoard collapsed to the rule it always produced,
GameView.deckRev retired with its last reader, the ward's arming stub
told honestly, and every comment or test title still citing the retired
revision numbering reworded to the rule it guards. Rim mechanics unify on
rimWarpMouth and breachRim; the test suite gains plainRimWall and
pushSustained and loses its loop-shaped scars and rev-named helpers.
No behavior changes; 255 tests pass unchanged.

All 50 rooms were retired (backed up on the droplet and in Spaces), so no
ledger needs an old branch to replay: forty revisions of deckRev gates
fold into one canonical ruleset — the newest behavior everywhere. The
ward's arming, the idiot's steering, the lazy illusion roll, the legacy
redirection swap, and the flat wave all leave with their gates; RULES_REV
restarts at 1 for whenever the rules fork again. Old-vintage test pins go
with them. The opening screen now quietly drops seats whose rooms the
server no longer knows, instead of listing them "unreachable" forever.

The full audit Wall of Fire started: WATERWALL crashes on a warp mouth,
washing both rims inward; ILLUSION WALL hangs its scrim on a mouth (the
create-wall bluff); STONE TO WATER melts a brick over a warp at both ends
and breaches a plain rim wall exactly as DESTROY WALL does — far side
washes out, a warp opens, the wave floods the fresh tunnel; the WARP WAND
bores a temporary wraparound that closes when its wall returns; and
CREATE DOOR stops hanging dead doors onto the void. Older ledgers keep
their refusals and danglings, and replay so.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A warp mouth at the maze's edge is a corridor — the wraparound connects
it to the opposite rim — so the fire may bar it. It takes BOTH mouths
(each with its own burn-out clock), and the crossing steps through flame
for the usual 4 from either side. Older ledgers refused the cast and
replay so.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
"Small entryways in a stone wall" are stone: a door melts exactly as a
wall does — edge opens, lock state washes away, the two-point wave
crashes. Older ledgers had the refusal and replay so.

The per-step steering recalculated greedily, ping-ponging between routes
that tie at a corner and able to wall the victim off from the cure; rev 37
retires it — the march is the player's to honor, and the automatons steer
themselves. DROP OBJECT that shakes the victim's OWN treasure out of a
thief's arms is now an aid, not an attack: while carried, that treasure
cannot even be stood upon, so the curse could be unsatisfiable. Older
ledgers replay steered and strict.

Blind reviews over d2b40ec..HEAD (engine / web / server+deploy). Orphaned
doc comments rejoined their functions; the swap-meet tradables collapsed
from four pasted deriveds to one (killing the "the's treasure" label);
FEAR's aura and banner now share the engine's own dreadDistance; the
long-press peek got one home; rulebook.ts stopped wearing JSON quotes;
process-named tests and war-story comments now state the constraints they
pin; the protocol doc caught up to its handlers; verify-ledgers.sh can
actually count failures; the runbook learned about the determinism gate
and the nightly backups. No behavior changes — 255 tests and all 48
production ledgers replay identically.

Watch a room by code alone: no seat, no ledger line, no voice in chat.
Views and events are redacted for the empty viewer id (which no seat can
hold), so hands, wards, ambushes and boobytrap truths stay dark. The
table sees only a head count.

The guard-the-gold rung cast SAFE/GLUE at a floor treasure with no
line-of-sight check; the engine refused the cast and the fallback
burned the bot's whole turn.

The card's line bends: a victim shoved against a wall moved zero
squares and just lost the turn, because GO AWAY borrowed waterbolt's
straight-line knockback. Its own rout now holds the heading while open,
bends around walls, sidesteps when no ground can be gained, rolls the
D4 only when options tie, and stops early only when truly cornered.
Waterbolt's physical shove stays straight, as a shove should. Ledgers
verified before deploy.

An ambush springing TELEPORT OPPONENT opened a stack with params null —
the spring bypasses cast validation and nothing ever asked where the
victim goes — and resolution crashed on the missing cell, wedging the
room 'waiting on Automaton'. Three layers:
- Crash guards: teleport-opponent and mental-force fizzle gracefully on
a destination-less stack (ungated: no stored command had resolved one).
- The trap commits its destination when laid: setAmbush carries a cell
('wherever you say', said in advance), the spring passes it into the
stack, and the client's arming flow asks for the click.
- Rev 35 refuses arming those spells without a destination; older
ledgers armed blind and their springs fizzle.
All ledgers verified before deploy.

Same reading as fireball's rev 33: 'carrying' means displayed. Counting
hidden hand stones both inflated the damage and broadcast the secret
count in the total. The automatons' estimate (displayed as the visible
floor) is now simply the truth. All production ledgers verified clean
before deploy.

'Destroys all magical stones an opponent is CARRYING' — the owner's
ruling: a stone hidden in the hand is a secret card, not a carried
stone. Only displayed stones burn; the old all-hand burning also leaked
hidden information by announcing cards nobody knew existed. Earlier
games replay their broader fire. All 42 production ledgers verified
before deploy.

deploy/verify-ledgers.sh fetches every production ledger and strictly
replays it against the local engine (any refusal or crash fails; a
lobby that never dealt is trivially clean). Run from the repo root
before deploying engine changes — the check both of tonight's replay
breaks would have caught.

Same lesson twice in one night: the toroidal dread applied at every rev
and QD3S (recorded flat) refused seq 76 again on restore. rev >= 32
wraps; older vintages measure the flat diamond they were played under.
This time verified properly: a strict replay harness (any refused
command is a hard failure) ran all 41 production ledgers against the
new engine before deploy — 0 failures. That harness now lives in the
repo as the pre-deploy determinism check it always should have been.

The maze is a torus — a wizard walking through walls off one edge
arrives at the other, so the crow flies around the wrap too.
dreadDistance measures toroidal manhattan; the aura's wash wraps with
it. No rev-32 game has cast fear yet, so the measure corrects in
place; older vintages replay flat as they were played.

The engine already steers every step and bars items, attacks, and
non-aiding casts; the one honor-bound piece is spending the movement at
all. The afflicted now see the card's demand in an urgent slip the
moment their turn opens, matching the FEAR pattern: bots comply
mechanically, humans get the words.

'Players or monsters must move away from you on their turn if within
range, if they can.' Automatons caught in the dread now spend their
legs escaping before any other marching — the step that most increases
distance, a true dead end excusing them per the card. Humans keep their
freedom but get the compulsion spelled out in an urgent slip (move
away, even by card or through danger; only a dead end excuses you),
with the maze trusting the table to honor it — the owner's chosen
depth of enforcement.

The FAQ is exact: 'The 3 spaces away is measured as a Wizard walks (if
he could walk through walls), not diagonally' — manhattan, at every
vintage. The walking-distance detour is reverted (no rev-32 ledger ever
recorded under it); the rev-32 gains stand: monsters, warp-steps, and
teleports all honor the dread. The aura returns to the true diamond,
now as a wash on its member squares.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_0138A8CjeQRpvzKxuMfz1Bqc
QD3S failed to restore ('replay failed at seq 76: an unnatural dread
keeps you away'): the walkingDistance switch ran at every rev, refusing
a move that was legal under the crow-flies rule when it was played.
fearRepels now measures walked spaces at rev 32+ and as the crow flies
below, so every stored ledger replays its own vintage. No data was
lost; the room's ledger was intact throughout.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_0138A8CjeQRpvzKxuMfz1Bqc
The owner caught the metric: a wizard eight squares away as the crow
flies stood three WALKED spaces away through a warp, and the manhattan
check waved it through (while falsely blocking approaches manhattan-
near through solid walls). fearRepels now measures walkingDistance —
the same BFS the maze walks, warps included, walls respected. The
board's aura follows suit: the diamond becomes a violet wash on every
square within three walked spaces, computed by the same BFS, warp
mouths included. No rev-32 ledger existed yet, so the metric corrects
inside rev 32.

The dread was invisible, so a wizard legally circling at four squares
read as a rules failure (QD3S: no wizard ever actually breached the
bubble — only the monster, fixed at rev 32). Every feared player now
radiates a manhattan-3 diamond, dashed violet, breathing slowly; what
the engine refuses, the board now shows.

Room QD3S: Kestrel cast Fear and a Democratic Monster warp-stepped from
eight squares away to ONE — moveCreature never knew the card existed.
'No player or monster will move to within 3 spaces of you' now guards
every willing move: walking wizards (as before), commanded monsters
(walks, wall-passes, and warp mouths alike), dimensional warp-steps,
and self-teleports. Forced movement — knockback, waves, Mental Force,
Teleport Opponent — is not willing, and still throws you anywhere.

Its card claws WHOEVER's square it enters, mover included — the owner

safe.

'When a player picks up one of your treasures, you may play at that
time (out of turn) this card on him' — the owner read the card and is
right: no arming ahead. When a treasure whose owner holds WARD is
grabbed, the grab hangs (new wardPending phase, outranking all other
input) and the owner alone answers: spring it (3 damage, card spent)
or let them go (card kept, silence). Automatons always spring it on a
thief of their gold. The arming mechanic is refused at rev 31 and its
button hidden; rev 3-30 games keep their armed wards and rev 1-2 keep
the automatic spring, replaying unchanged. The window does reveal that
the owner holds SOMETHING - as it would at any real table when the
room turns to look at them.

A ⚙ preferences slip in the masthead, saved to this device:
- Token art, all or nothing: the photographed cardboard or the
hand-drawn vectors (the workshop's per-category query params stay as
the undocumented editing override).
- Ending a turn on a lone grabbable treasure picks it up on the way
out — never on your own home, never when two share the square.
- Spell flourishes on or off, honored by the live board and the
replay reel alike (trap notices still fire; they are information).
Preferences change what you see or what routine commands the client
sends for you — never what is legal.

Room M9QJ, seq 190: a berserker played a 5 to charge a distant enemy,
walked two squares, crossed a treasure, and the gold-underfoot rung —
which outranks everything — ended its actions with six paid moves
unwalked. Before spending a number, the march now checks whether any
goal treasure lies within the free legs: if the turn is going to end at

for loot; it just shouldn't pay toll first.)

The card prints no LOS and the engine asks none — but the client never

The game has never used token art for edge effects — created walls,

treatments. The ten unreferenced file pairs (wall, wall-2, door,
fire-wall, illusion-wall, destroy-wall, jam-lock, lock-gone,
redirection-a/b) are gone from both art sets, and the Token Workshop
gains 'Walls & doors — as the maze draws them': every edge state
(locked, ajar, held, removed, jammed), the standing fire, and both
faces of an illusion, rendered by the same EdgeGlyph / FirewallEdge /
IllusionShimmer components the board mounts. EdgeGlyph is newly
extracted from Board so the display cannot drift.

The pulsing red rectangle becomes a standing fire: a glowing gradient
bar seated on the wall line, five tongues of flame licking on staggered
beats, and embers drifting off the top. Pure CSS on a handful of shapes

The owner's idea for teaching novices: a hints button runs all three
temperaments' brains against YOUR view — the same cards and board you
see, nothing hidden — and each says what it would do in your robes.
The Hunter (eyes on the gold), the Berserker (eyes on the blood), the
Worrier (eyes on the exits). Available on your turn and while under

nothing dispatched. hints.ts translates any Command into plain words.

Shedding a single card meant entering discard mode, marking, and

Per the owner's design — and truer to a real table, where the cast is
public: every illusion wall's location is open knowledge, rendered as a
shimmering wall to any player whose eyes have not yet ruled on it.
Testing is an explicit act: tap the shimmer (or bump into it) and a
modal explains the 50/50 and offers 'Roll to test your eyes' — the new
testIllusion command rolls once, then the wall either hardens or
dissolves for you alone. Nobody's verdict is moved by watching someone
else stroll through (the Q3WZ mystery: an automaton walking through
its own round-1 fake). Untested walls block movement and sight without
consuming RNG; the pre-29 lazy belief roll is preserved for stored
games. Automatons doubt free shimmers on their best crossing before
spending any card on that wall.

Per the owner's ruling: EMPATHY mirrors only delivered damage, so a
damage-less curse gives it nothing — the berserker keeps it sheathed
against afflictions (an automaton burned one on SLOW DEATH). And the
permanent curses (slow death, walking dead, idiot) ride no duration
pipe, so BLUNT and shieldstone numbers can't shorten them: only a full
stop or REMOVE CURSE answers those, and the ladder now knows it.

'Takes 2 damage' from a 3-point bolt read as broken arithmetic unless
you remembered the bloodstone. The damaged event now carries its soaks
(bloodstone's flat point, soulstone's spell-damage clamp) and the log
prints them: 'takes 2 damage (lightning-blast (reflected) — bloodstone
soaks 1)'. A blow the bloodstone drinks entirely — previously silent —
announces itself too. Events are derived, so replays gain the notes
retroactively.

FAQ: 'If this gets FULLY REFLECTED, you lose the rest of your turn and
cannot draw cards (in addition to damage).' When the returned bolt
stuns its own caster mid-turn, their remaining actions end at once and
the end-of-turn draw comes up empty (new turn.drawForbidden flag); the
normal stun still costs them the next turn. The affected player sees
'Your own bolt has left you reeling' in place of the usual spent-turn
slip. Older revisions played on and stored games replay so.

dimming to the caster's sighted squares (the engine demands LOS to the

its face. isMovableObject now reads it from there, retiring the

'FULL REFLECTION lets the other player decide which objects, if any,
will be swapped' — the reflector's choice now rides their counteract
(params.cardId, reflector's item first), resolved with the roles
swapped when the reflection settles; 'none' or no choice trades
nothing. The client walks the reflector through the same give-and-take
picker, with a 'swap nothing' refusal.
Also from room XRT7: the trade picker now honors each room's own rules
revision (older rooms trade only object-typed cards), so it can no
longer offer a wizardblade a rev-25 engine will quietly refuse — and a
fizzled swap finally says so in the log instead of vanishing.

The trade grammar gains a 'treasure' token (never present in stored
ledgers, so no gate needed): a dagger can buy back the treasure in a
thief's arms, or two armfuls of gold can change hands outright. The
one-treasure carry limit and WEAKNESS both hold in a trade as at a
grab — a one-way treasure needs an open slot and an able back. The
picker offers each side's carried treasure alongside displayed items,
withholding theirs when your own arms are already full.

The pact fix: a clockwork no longer attacks a wizard it holds a BUDDY
pact on — Eric watched one sign the pact and punch him the next turn.
A pact is torn up for exactly one thing: a kill. And the post-attack
pact is signed only by a wizard who wants OUT of the fight (hauling
gold, bleeding, or with other enemies left) — a healthy duelist keeps
its options, and mutual-pact stalemates stay out of bot wars.
Swap Meet drops the 'name a card' prompt for a real trade picker:
click the other trader, choose one of your carried items, then claim
one of their displayed items. Rules rev 26 widens the engine's match
from object-typed cards to every movable object (daggers, rocks,
wands, stones); older games matched narrowly and replay so.

A FULL REFLECTION's returned spell is a fresh attack on its own caster —
who, per the owner's ruling, gets a defender's counteraction window
against it (absorb the blast, shield it, or FULL REFLECTION again: the
ping-pong war ends when the cards run out). The reflection now settles
into a new stack with the roles swapped and the damage pre-priced
(numbers, amplifies, and surviving counters already applied); the blow
returns to its sender unerringly, with no fresh hit rolls. onResolved
effects run with the swapped roles, so a reflected IDIOT now afflicts
its own caster. Earlier revisions land the blow instantly and stored
games replay unchanged.
Automatons price the incoming reflected damage off the stack; the attack
modal announces 'Your own spell comes screaming back!' with the inbound
total.

Per the owner's favorite play: the pact only breaks when its caster
attacks the target, so a blow landed BEFORE the pact leaves it intact.
After spending its attack, a non-berserker bot with BUDDY in hand signs
it onto the weakest visible unpacted enemy — the one it likely just
burned — barring their revenge. The berserker skips it: it would only
break its own pact tomorrow.

- TELEPORT OPPONENT exiles a delivery in progress — the thief of the
bot's gold, or any carrier within six of home — to the square farthest
(by walking distance) from the victim's own home; a sealed pocket wins
outright. No LOS needed for the destination, per the card.
- WARP WAND joins the roadwork: a wall slips open for a 4+-step shortcut
when the crossing fits this turn's remaining legs (the wall returns at
end of turn); charges itself with the smallest number on first use.
- ADRENALINE is the finisher: cast when no single attack in hand kills
the target but the top two together do; the attack window now honors
the second swing.
- STRENGTH doubles a thrown dagger or rock exactly when that turns a
wound into a kill.
- EXTEND rides afflictions, doubling the misery's stay.
- MEGA-MONSTER doubles a pet's stride (movement over life) so the
menagerie actually catches people.
All six leave the bottom discard tier.

Per the owner's briefing on how these cards are actually played:
- Roadwork on the march: DISPEL CREATION un-creates conjured walls and
filled squares; STONE TO WATER melts walls and stone blocks (cast only
from outside its own wave); CREATE DOOR plus a lock-opener turns a wall
into a doorway; DIMENSIONAL WARP folds a 6+-step detour into one step,
and the bot steps through its tokens when the far side is closer.
- Path denial grows: JAM LOCK seals doors on a threat's road, ILLUSION
WALL stands in for CREATE WALL, the full nuisance shelf (pit, slime,
ooze, rosebush, tacks, dust cloud) joins stone and thornbush, and a
BOOBYTRAP lands mid-path when nothing can reroute the thief.
- Bursts: ADD joins a second number to the march; MAD DASH doubles the
sprint to gold (never while carrying); POWER RUN buys the last spaces
of a winning delivery with blood.
- Breathing room when pressed (worrier, treasure-carrier, or bleeding):
FEAR at three paces, UGLY when they crowd in, BUDDY to pacify the hound.
- AROUND THE CORNER: an enemy one bend out of sight can be attacked; new
bentSightFor mirrors the engine's bentLos from the viewer's knowledge.
- GameView gains createdEdges (public — the table watched them conjured).
All newly playable cards leave the bottom discard tier via USEFUL_NEUTRALS.

The end-of-turn shed was eating cards the brain itself casts: BIG MAN,
MIST BODY, SHRINK, LIFESAVER, and STONE DEAD all sat at or below the shed
threshold. But worth is contextual — LIFESAVER is genuinely dead at a
two-seat table, BIG MAN outside the berserker's book — so discardValue now
takes the view and style: STONE DEAD joins the attacks tier outright, the
rest are kept exactly by the wizard who can play them.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_0138A8CjeQRpvzKxuMfz1Bqc
Pass Through Wall joins the march: the bot banks a crossing when stepping
through one wall beats the walk by 4+ steps (or no road exists), walks to
the chosen wall, and spends the charge stepping through. passWallCharges
is now in PlayerPublicView — the cast is public at a physical table.
Path denial for guardGold tiers: when an enemy carries the bot's treasure
toward home, or closes on its gold on the floor, the bot reconstructs the
threat's shortest path and prices every corridor line and empty square on
it; CREATE WALL, FILL SQUARE WITH STONE, or THORNBUSH lands wherever the
detour costs the enemy 3+ steps, legality mirrored from the engine
(sighted, empty, off homes and warp tokens).
All five cards leave the bottom discard tier (2 -> 6).

Rules rev 24: a waterwall wave that finds a victim dist cells from its
source has only range-dist spaces of push left — a range-2 wave throws its
adjacent victim two spaces but a victim at its far edge only one, and
spent force never converts into crush damage. Applies to WATERWALL and
both STONE TO WATER waves; older revisions keep the flat full-range wash
so stored games replay unchanged.
Automatons now use DESTROY WALL on the march: two BFS distance maps (from
the bot, from its objectives) price every visible wall by the shortcut its
removal opens; the bot blasts when it saves 4+ steps of walking — or when
no road exists at all — never standing beside the blast unless trapped
and healthy. The card also leaves the shed pile: discardValue 2 -> 6.

The cast validation demands LOS to a stone block, but the dimming aid lit
every stone square on the map — including ones the caster cannot see. Now
only sighted blocks light; and since the card equally targets stone walls
(edges the cell-shadow cannot express), no sighted block means no shadow
at all rather than a maze dimmed away from its true targets.

The 5e-inherited card database carried 85 rows tagged expansion2; 6e has
only the basic deck and Expansion Set #1, and buildDeck never dealt them.
They kept leaking into things that cite the database (rulebook text, the
IDIOT aid list), so the rows are gone and CardSet no longer names the set.
Other editions can reintroduce their own sets when they arrive.

Rules rev 23 — IDIOT, per the card and FAQ:
- No handling items: pick up / drop of treasures and objects refused
(dropping was the exploit: capturing a stolen treasure on your own home,
or dropping your own treasure underfoot for an instant cure)
- No punching, no thrown dagger / large rock (attacks on players)
- No effect on a victim already carrying one of their own treasures
Ungated (permissive): counteractions are now castable while idiotized (the
one thing the card expressly allows — the gate wrongly blocked them), and
goal-aiding spells (IDIOT_AIDS: destroy-wall, teleport, mad-dash, ...) per
the FAQ's 'you could, however, destroy a wall'.
Sight tracing: while an LOS attack sits on the stack, the board draws the
line it traveled — straight when direct, leg by leg through both warp
mouths (with pulsing rings) when the maze's wraparound carried it. Engine
traceSight/traceSightFor/stackSightTrace; overlay in Board.svelte; shown
live and in replays. Verified against H3PC's cross-board Idiot cast.

A democratic monster touching its own creator opens a stack where one
player wears both hats, and doPass matched the attacker first: every
pass "bounced the exchange to the defender" — the same wizard —
forever. Room 928D livelocked there at seq 83; once the boot kick
revived its pump, the automaton politely passed 389 times. At rev 22
a self-stack pass RESOLVES (the claw lands, the game moves on);
older ledgers hold their recorded bounces and replay so. 928D itself
was repaired by truncating the no-op run and lifting it to rev 22,
verified clean and unstuck on a copy before installation.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The bot pump only ran when a command or join arrived, so a server
restart landing mid-bot-turn left the restored room waiting forever
for a human to poke it — room 928D sat exactly there, its automaton
holding a perfectly answerable stack. Boot now kicks the pump for
every restored still-running room, two seconds after restore.

Two numbers for movement work by playing them one after another, the
Add spending itself on the second — but clicking the ADD card itself,
the natural first instinct, showed nothing but a cancel button. It
now says how the ride works; a second number without an Add in hand
says what is missing instead of offering a doomed button; and the
button's label says "spends your Add" at the moment it does.

DESTROY WALL's "anyone in either square next to the wall takes 4
points" swept only wizards; a troll leaned on the falling masonry
untouched. The expansion sheet is explicit — "if a card specifies
'Opponent' or 'Anyone' as a target, this includes Monsters" — so the
collapse now crushes creatures in both squares, at the rim breach's
far side too. Earlier ledgers keep their charmed monsters.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The rules tab carried a paraphrase and the FAQ; now the court of
final appeal sits between them — the full base rulebook text (the
5th-edition wording the 6th shipped with) and the Expansion Set 1
sections, word for word from the designer's own wizwar.com, with
copyright and provenance shown rather than hidden. This edition has
no Expansion 2 — Artifacts and Transformations do not exist here and
are not included. The text moves out of research/ into real source.

The rulebook (Cards And Actions That Change The Map): a CREATE WALL
or DESTROY WALL alteration on a junction between sectors rolls a
50-50 when "some other moron" rotates one of them — 1-2 stays with
the standing sector, 3-4 travels with the moving one, per the book's
own low/high convention. Both rotation and relocation roll (the same
seam tears either way), demolished holes roll alongside conjured
walls, the pips land loud in the chronicle, and a traveling edge
rides anchored to its in-sector cell. Rev-gated: the roll consumes
dice that stored games never spent.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Destroying a wall on the board's outer edge used to leave a one-sided
hole into nothing. The table's physics prevail: the outer rim wraps,
so the breach goes clean through — the opposite perimeter wall in the
same row or column crumbles too (collapse damage and all), and a new
warp pair opens between the two edges, shimmering at both mouths.
Rev-gated: stored games hold one-sided breaches and replay so. Sector
moves recompute the wraparounds and forget improvised openings, as
the maze's own reshaping always has.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Create Wall refused the board-edge openings: no far cell, so "walls
must be created between two spaces". But bricking over a lettered
opening is a classic play, and the far space is the tunnel itself.
A warp mouth now counts as wallable — with the wall raised at BOTH
mouths, since a tunnel has one passage: no walking in from the far
board, no warp sight through a sealed pair, and tearing down either
end reopens both. The client grows edge hitboxes at the perimeter
mouths so the line is clickable at all.

GIFT FROM BELOW bit for three in the middle of end-of-turn noise and
nobody saw it — not live, not in the replay, where its log line even
claimed "lose a turn" (the other trap's fate). The trapSprung event
now names its card; drawing a trap YOURSELF raises the full modal —
the card, what it did, "Curse the deck" — and the chronicle tells
each trap's true consequence. The amplify narration was already
fixed; replays re-derive events, so both now show in old games'
reels too.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Room 9BBV's "impossible" 14-point powerthrust was an archmage playing
correctly: 2 + 5, AMPLIFIED. The engine's math was honest and its
narration was not — neither the log line nor the attack modal
mentioned the amplify, so a legal kill read as a bug. The spellCast
event now carries its amplify count, the chronicle says "casts
Powerthrust with a 5, AMPLIFIED, at Kestrel", and the modal's power
line shows "powered by a 5 — AMPLIFIED ×2" while there is still time
to respect it.

Every creature is born with attackUsed spent — the right way to say
"cannot attack the turn created" for monsters whose flag refreshes
next turn. But the democratic monster's flag budgets its ROUND, so a
mid-round summon arrived pre-spent and bumped harmlessly until the
round rolled over. Creation-turn pacifism now rides justCreated
alone for the monster (checked at the touch), and its round-claw
starts live — folded into rev 18 with the boundary refresh.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Its one-attack-per-round refreshed inside beginTurnFor when the turn
index matched the roll-off winner's seat — and only the living begin
turns, so once that wizard fell the claw never refreshed again: one
attack, then a lifetime of harmless bumping. The refresh now lives at
the true round boundary in the turn-advance loop, which passes dead
seats without skipping the count. Earlier ledgers keep their gummed
monster and replay so.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The relocation flourish corrected its coordinates against the view —
but effects are mapped when the events arrive, one message before
the new state, so the correction read the PRE-move board and the
ghost slid between unrelated squares. The sectorRelocated event now
carries its origins in final coordinates, computed after the maze
renormalizes, and the flourish trusts the event alone.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Stone to Water's wave (and every waterwall collapse) washed wizards
back and crushed them against the maze — while a skeleton in the
same water stood dry. The wave only knew creatures well enough to
drown fire imps. From rev 17 it carries them all: washed back along
the surge, one point of crush per space the maze refuses, fire imps
still destroyed outright. Earlier ledgers keep their dry monsters
and replay so.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
pickUpTreasure grabbed whichever treasure the list offered first —
with two on a square, no choice and sometimes the wrong one. The
command now takes an optional treasureId (absent in every stored
ledger, so old replays keep their old grab), and when the square
holds more than one, the button asks "whose?" before dispatching.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
SWAP HOME BASES traded homes correctly but borrowed the
positionsSwapped event, so the chronicle claimed the wizards
themselves changed places. It now speaks its own event — "swap home
bases — the maze's loyalties shift!" — and both hearths shimmer as
their allegiance changes.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Player movement asked the full question of a door — removed, keyed
this turn, or held — while creature movement only saw "door" and
refused, so a skeleton balked at a doorway its master had unlocked
for good. One doorIsOpen() now answers for both, and an open doorway
costs a wraith none of its wall passes.
And the interruption window earns the modal it deserved: "The maze
holds its breath" — the card shown, the instruction plain, dismissed
with "Seize it". No more hunting the rail for a slip while time
stands parted.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
OPPORTUNITY FIRE and INTERRUPT bought a moment the client would not
honor: every selection and targeting gate asked "is it your turn?",
and mid-interruption it is not — so the window's holder could click
attack cards into silence while the engine sat ready to accept the
cast. A window is now yourMoment: hand selection, player/creature/
cell/edge targeting, and the dimming aid all open exactly as on your
own turn, and the slip says what to do with it ("pick an attack card
and a target") instead of the cryptic "cast now".
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A believed ILLUSIONARY ATTACK, the goat's ram, and the hurled
treasure all deal their damage inside the attack's own resolution
hook — past the pipeline where the empathy mirror lived, so a linked
caster walked away unbloodied. One resolvedBlow helper now carries
the mirror to all three: "any attack done in ANY form" means these
too. Rev-gated: proactive empathy predates this, so stored ledgers
may hold unmirrored blows and replay them as struck.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
An automaton's ILLUSIONARY ATTACK arrived as a mystery: the modal
showed only the illusion card, never the spell being faked — though
the stack has always carried it face-up. The defender now sees both
cards side by side, the caption names the fake ("an ILLUSIONARY
Fireball — it bites only if believed"), and the hint bar says which
spell to weigh a counter against.
And EMPATHY — corner: COUNTERACTION — was refused at the door like
INVISIBLE before it, while the automatons' own counter ladder had
been reaching for it and silently failing into the fallback all
along. It now raises mid-stack: the blow lands on both wizards, the
link lingers for its NUMBER card's turns, and ANTI-ANTI severs it
cleanly (empathy is no escape). The number-riding-a-counter idiom is
one shared helper now. Permissive both ways: no stored ledger
contains either play, so no rev gate.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
An automaton answered NO SPELL with an Absorb — which "has no effect
on duration-based spells." Afflictions sat outside the price table
and drew the phantom two-point default, tripping the point-soaking
rungs. An affliction's weight is now its duration, and the two
counters that touch only points — ABSORB and REVERSE — stand aside
for it, leaving the ones that genuinely bite durations: full shield,
remove curse, blunt, reflection, shieldstone numbers. Pinned: under
NO SPELL with both in hand, the bot blunts, never absorbs.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The table holds doors open to cast back through them at pursuers;
our held door opened for feet but not for eyes. From rev 15 a held
door is an open doorway to sight — casting at players, creatures,
and squares sees through it, the client's dimming aid and the
automatons alike (they share sightedCellsFor). REMOVE LOCK's "still
considered to block L.O.S." stands: that speaks of a CLOSED door,
and an unheld unlocked door still blocks. Rev-gated because rev-14
ledgers may already contain holds and must replay blind.
Pinned three ways: the holder blasts a pursuer through the held
doorway; an unheld unlocked door still blocks; rev 14 stays blind.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
MASTER KEY and PICK LOCK each read: "You may 'hold the door open' for
others, if you wish" — and the engine always slammed it at end of
turn. Now the cast takes a hold param: the door stays unlocked past
the turn, for anyone, as long as its holder stands adjacent and
alive. A step away, a shove, a teleport, or a killing blow lets it
swing shut — swept after every command, since anything can move a
wizard. New state, new param: no old ledger contains either, so no
rev gate is needed.
The client offers a "hold the door open" checkbox when either card is
selected; a held door shows pale with a green jamb ("held open by a
standing wizard"), and the chronicle records the holding and the
shutting. Pinned: a held door outlives the turn and admits the other
wizard; walking away releases it.

Scoped to everything since the last pass (3308850). Three blind
reviews, every finding verified before touching anything.
Confirmed and fixed: two identical comment-splitting insertions left
doc comments orphaned from their fields (net and local alike); a
51-line CSS fossil of the pre-extraction inline effects survived in
Board.svelte; the rev-13 miss-roll test asserted tautologies while
its comment claimed a check the code never made — it now proves the
die was consumed, and the skeleton is no longer returned as trollId;
the sprite registry's `as never` silently disabled the completeness
its annotation advertised (now a mapped type, one cast at the
dispatch seam); a dead ternary guarded a union that doesn't exist;
Bolt carried a duplicate .fork rule from a color iteration; fxTtl
contradicted three sprites' real animation lengths; the permanence
sentinel was reinvented as a magic 9000 (the engine now exports
isPermanentDuration); CELL was declared thrice (fx.ts now imports
it); App and Replay ran two divergent fx schedulers (one scheduleFx
now, cancellable — stale flourishes can no longer fire after leaving
a game); TokenArt retried missing files forever; the anti-anti
escape guards merge with the gate asymmetry explained; wall-of-fire's
rev-12 carve-out is marked; overLimit ignored a displayed BRAINSTONE
(bots over-discarded by two); botRemark's header mis-stated its own
branches; deliverGold fired on any drop, not a home-base delivery;
escape and win banter never fired from the steps that carry them.
Rejected: "as a human would" (house voice); FxGallery's dev-harness
framing (trimmed one plea, kept the facts).

Clicking a board token now shows the thing itself, enlarged, above
its card in the peek modal — whichever art is active, photograph or
SVG. The art tables move to art.ts so the board renderer and the
modal share one source.
First cut overlapped: the card scales 2.1x out of its layout box, so
flow neighbors sat underneath its visual footprint (the note had been
compensating with a 6.8rem margin hack). A card-stage now reserves
the card's TRUE visual size; token above, note below, nothing buried.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
An svg referenced through an <image> element is rasterized once at
its layout size in user units — about 29 pixels for a wizard — and
scales as a blurry bitmap thereafter, defeating the entire point of
vector art. TokenArt.svelte now fetches each file once, namespaces
its ids (45 tokens' worth of filter and pattern defs share one
document), and inlines it as a nested <svg>: live vector at any
zoom, verified crisp at 3x device scale. PNG art keeps the <image>
path untouched, and the token style family goes :global to reach the
component's elements.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The symlink into research/ becomes real files: public/tokens-svg now
owns the hand-drawn set, edited in place and served as-is by the dev
server. The research folder is scaffolding with a demolition date,
not a place for shipped assets to live.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The hand-drawn SVG token set wires in behind deliberately
undocumented query params — svgPlayers, svgCreatures, svgTerrain,
svgObjects, each =true — swapping that category's art everywhere it
draws: board tokens, lobby standees, roster. public/tokens-svg
symlinks research/tokens-svg, so under the dev server an edit to the
source art shows on the next refresh, and the production build copies
real files through the link. Nobody finds the door unless handed the
key; the photographed set remains the face of the game.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Projectiles flew cell-center to cell-center, launching from the
caster's feet and landing under the target's chin — tokens sit high
in their squares and fan sideways when crowded. Every travelling
effect (fireball, waterbolt, bolt, streak, and the reflection's
return flight) now resolves token anchors that mirror the board's
exact positioning, fan-out included: caster's center to target's
center, wizard or creature. Spots with no token to aim at fall back
to sensible cell points, and wash/knockback streaks end on the
carried wizard wherever they fanned to.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Tokens jumped square to square, which made the portal shimmer look
late — the wizard had already re-appeared before the threshold lit.
Wizards and creatures are now identity-keyed movers positioned by a
transform, so the DOM node survives a move and a single step glides
(260ms). Anything farther than a step — teleports, warps, drags,
sector moves — snaps as before, because sliding a wizard across the
whole maze would tell a false story; the warp's instant jump beside
its threshold shimmer is now the point, not the bug. Replays glide
the same way, and reduced motion stills it all.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The transmutation fired no flourish: its event carried no coordinates
for the wall case and the mapper knew neither it nor the wave it
raises. The event now carries its edge; the burst splashes both sides
of the vanished wall (or the freed square, for a block), and every
wizard the collapsing wave carries leaves a wash streak — which also
gives the plain WATERWALL's wave its motion for free.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Winning raised the modal on the same frame the fireworks lit,
covering them. The modal now waits behind the curtain for 2.4
seconds — three volleys over the winner's home, seen — then takes
the stage.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The bolt deepens to saturated gold over a dark amber glow; the splash
throws a wider crown of five droplets over a broader pool; the
fireworks lose their protractor — uneven angles, lengths, sizes, and
staggered timing, as a real burst has; the portal-cell's void gains
turning swirl arms so the dark center reads as motion, not blur; the
streak narrows and softens so its peak frame no longer resembles a
drawn white line.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The whiff darkens to slate and sweeps longer; the portal-cell opens
a dark void behind its collapsing rings — an opening in space, not a
selected square; the tacks grow half again and recoil harder; the
streak's reveal slows so the travel reads even in a sampled frame;
dust lifts its contrast a step without turning heavy. The sector
ghosts stay board-machinery on purpose — the reviewer allowed it,
and the maze grinding IS an operation, not a spell.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The outside review's diagnosis was right — the weak sprites had one
element doing one motion. Now each tells its story: the whiff is
three air streaks sweeping past a dodger with a wobble; the hit is a
contact flash, a compressed ring punched outward, and flying debris;
the streak's head visibly travels, drawing a tapered trail that
collapses into the destination; the sparkle snaps white-hot between
counter-rotating glints and sheds motes; the tacks are drawn
silhouettes now, points up as a tack on the floor menaces, hopping in
sequence; the claw slashes reveal one by one along their length with
a bright leading edge while the whole strike rakes sideways.
The sector ghosts keep their dashed frames but earn motion arcs,
directional chevrons, corner dust, and a grinding shudder as they
settle. The portal opens wide, ripples along its length, and pinches
shut; cell mouths collapse rings of energy inward. The thornbush
springs actual branches with thorn spurs. The slime is an asymmetric
blob that grips, with elastic strands snapping toward the caught.
Dust gains contrast, varied grain, and blows perpendicular to the
wall that shed it.

Its hole was a near-black disc that sat on the parchment like spilled
ink. Now an earthen gradient ellipse, offset toward the far wall,
with the far lip catching the light — a hole you look INTO.

Eric's fireball lands as the house style — layered construction,
gradient core, glow halo, a directional tail riding rotate="auto" —
with its defs scoped per instance via $props.id(), so simultaneous
fireballs cannot steal each other's gradients. The rest of the
catalog is rebuilt in its image: the waterbolt becomes its cold
sibling (spray tail, no turbulence — one heavy filter stack is
enough); lightning grows a glowing core and branching forks; the
burst blooms through a fire gradient with a shockwave and flying
embers; the splash throws a crown of droplets; the shield raises a
gradient dome with a rim strike; the pow star flashes white and
radiates speed dashes; claws leave tapered gashes; the absorbed card
spirals in along a pull ring; the soul is a proper little ghost with
eyes, swaying as it rises; fireworks ride colored trails; Chaos
catches card slips in its vortex; the pit opens a gradient hole that
swallows a faller; ooze splats and flings blobs; the thornbush sheds
leaves; slime closes over and pops bubbles; masonry dust goes soft
with falling grit. Whiff, tacks, portal, and the sector ghosts keep
their simpler forms on purpose — restraint is part of the style.

The effects move out of Board.svelte into src/fx-sprites/ — one
component per flourish, markup and animation CSS together, so editing
the fireball means opening Fireball.svelte and nothing else. A
registry (index.ts) maps kind to sprite; Board renders through it.
The event mapping stays in fx.ts.
And a viewer: /?fx opens the Flourish Workshop — every sprite on a
labeled parchment tile, replaying on a 2.2-second beat. Under the dev
server, editing any sprite file hot-reloads the gallery mid-loop.

Punching was mostly deck arithmetic — nineteen castable damage cards
in a 196-card deck — but three leaks made it worse. The march was
burning the biggest NUMBER card on long walks, starving waterbolts
and lightning; the biggest number is now reserved whenever an attack
in hand wants it. Heave-Ho, priced for defense, was being cast
without a treasure to throw (refused, turn stumbled) — now never
cast. Illusionary Attack was cast without naming a spell to fake —
now it fakes a fireball, the best-selling lie. And STONE DEAD joins
the arsenal against anyone flashing displayed stones: number times
the visible count, cast when the arithmetic beats the alternatives.
Measured across thirty berserker mirrors: attack casts up a quarter,
the tier handicap sharper (25-5), no stalls.

Green rings at the traveler's squares become a portal curtain: the
opening LINE itself shimmers on both boards — resolved from the warp
table via the step's direction — in iridescent cyan over a soft
violet breath, dashes drifting like light through a veil. Dimensional
warp tokens, whose mouths are whole squares, wrap in the same veil
around the square instead.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The showstopper: sectors visibly move — a dashed parchment ghost
rotates through its quarter-turn or slides the whole way to its new
ground (corrected for rev-11 renormalization, since the event records
pre-shift origins and the view holds the truth). Death sends a small
soul drifting up from the token; victory bursts fireworks over the
winner's home, three volleys; CHAOS spins a triple spiral over the
whole maze and stands alone in its batch.
And the slapstick tier: knockbacks, shoves, drags, and pit-jumps
leave a motion streak; falling in a pit swallows dark with dust;
ooze gets a wobbling pratfall ellipse; tacks sting in three hopping
asterisks; thornbush snaps green; slime sinks its ring; a successful
pit climb puffs dust.

The reflected spell turns in the air and flies home wearing its own
colors, striking its caster with the hit it meant for someone else.
Warp travel glows green at both mouths. Punches land as a proper
burst star; creature blows rake three red gashes; an absorbed spell
is a little card swallowed into the absorber, spinning as it shrinks.
And ongoing spells now wear their look between events: firewalls lick
and glow, the invisible and misted breathe at a fraction of opacity,
Medusa's victims gray to stone, and the webbed wear their webs. The
pulses stop under reduced motion; the informative looks stay.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Replay steps carry the same events the live table saw, so the spells
flare on catch-up reels and whole-game replays alike — retroactively:
stored games re-derive their events on replay, so every fireball ever
thrown bursts again. Step changes clear pending effects so scrubbing
backward does not smear.

A cosmetic effects layer on the board svg, fed by the same event
stream that writes the log. Fireballs streak and burst; waterbolts
arc and splash; lightning jags and flickers; teleports shimmer at
both ends; walls rise and fall in dust; stopped attacks flash a
golden shield; hits ring red; misses whiff; other attack spells
sparkle at the caster. Successive visuals from one command stagger by
a beat, everything self-expires, reduced-motion hides the layer
whole, and nothing here touches game state — the effects are mapped
from events in fx.ts and drawn in Board.svelte, online and hotseat
alike.

BOT_LINES leaves the server internals for banter.ts, keyed by
semantic trigger instead of raw event type, so editing the clockwork's
voice takes no knowledge of the event stream. The repertoire grows
from fourteen lines to fifty across twelve occasions — grabbing and
delivering gold, dealing and taking pain, killing and dying,
summoning, walling, escaping, springing traps, dodging, and winning.
Bots also now speak when things happen TO them: the actor remarks on
its deeds, bystanders on their suffering — a berserker taking a hit
answers "I FELT THAT. DO IT AGAIN." even on your turn. Still at most
one voice per step, still half the time, menace over chatter.

Two ways out of the game, one cleanup. A wizard killed by damage took
their monsters, sustained spells, and armed ambushes with them; a
wizard eliminated by treasure loss left everything standing — a fire
imp scorching for a dead master, a Medusa still gazing at a corpse.
Both paths now share one sweep, gated at rev 14 so stored games keep
their orphans acting as recorded.
Also: Lifesaver lasts until used, carried as a near-billion-turn
sentinel — which the scoresheet printed. Durations that mean forever
no longer show a number.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Once a gap opened — a backgrounded tab during the bots' turns was
enough — the mark-seen condition (exactly one move behind) could
never hold again, so the banner grew with every move a player watched
happen in front of them. Now only the first state after arriving (or
reconnecting) announces a gap; while present and visible, play marks
itself seen, an announced gap stays frozen until watched or skipped,
and a hidden tab still accumulates its gap honestly.

Rejoining a room replays the whole chronicle through the same events
channel that carries live play, so the opening roll-off modal fired
on every return. The replayed chronicle is now flagged, and one-time
fanfare stays quiet on it — the log still rebuilds in full.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Two archmages idled turn after turn: hands clogged with situational
neutrals, and doEndTurn caps the draw by the room left, so a full
hand never refreshed. Nothing to cast, nothing to draw, nothing done.
The brain now sheds dead weight before ending the turn — only cards
it has no play for; good counters and attacks stay hoarded — so the
draw always has room. The trick is repertoire, so it is tier-gated:
adepts and archmages churn, the apprentice hoards like the novice it
is. Measured across forty berserker mirrors that sharpened the
handicap from two-to-one to three-to-one with zero stalled games.

An opponent's wraith refused to be dispelled — the engine was willing
all along (any controller's creature, sight required), but creature
clicks never routed cell-target spells, so the cast never left the
client. Clicking a creature with a cell spell selected now lands on
its square. The dimming aid told the same lie twice over: it lit
every created square including ones out of sight (a caster's own
thornbush beyond the walls) and never lit creatures at all. It now
mirrors the engine — anything created, whoever made it, in sight.
And "click a wall line" stops standing in for every edge card: each
now says what the click actually is — a locked door for the keys, a
corridor line for the fire, the creation itself for the dispel — and
attacks no longer show two hints for one wall.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The four placements accumulated invisibly until the last click cast
the spell. Each token now marks its square as it is placed, numbered
in click order — the 1 is the real trap — and tapping a placed token
lifts it again, since the four must be distinct squares.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
One tap cast the jump, and a player reaching for click-per-square
movement spent their teleport on the adjacent floor. Now the first
tap only marks the destination (the familiar pulsing square), and the
jump commits on a second tap of the same square or the hint-bar
button — with the hint spelling out the four-square, walls-ignored
range. The escape teleport gets the same two-tap arming; a counter
wasted on a misclick is a counter wasted.

First wizard was never random: createGame has always rolled a die
per player from the seed, re-rolling ties, and the gameStarted event
carried every pip — straight into a log line that said only "X goes
first." Now the table sees the ceremony: a dice modal as the boards
flip, one row per wizard, the trophy on the high roll, a note when
tied wizards rolled again — in online games and hotseat alike. The
chronicle line keeps the full roll-off too. Pure presentation; the
dice were always honest.

An automaton answered DROP OBJECT with an Absorb, then a Blunt —
two counters drained against a spell that carries no points. The
brain's price table listed only the classic damage spells; anything
unknown was guessed at 2 points, which tripped every damage-counter
rung. Utility attacks (dropping, dragging, swapping, peeking) now
route past those rungs entirely: the bot passes, or spends a full
stop when the effect actually threatens something — a shield for the
treasure it carries, a worrier's refusal to be dragged. Stone Dead,
Butt Head, Heave-Ho, and Illusionary Attack join the price table
while the hood is up.

A lock removed, a lock jammed, and a door picked open for the turn
all looked exactly like a locked door. Now the door itself tells:
pale wood for a lock gone for good, near-black for one jammed shut,
pale with a dashed jamb for a door standing open until end of turn —
each with a hover title saying so in words.

"The creature shares your square — there is nowhere to hide" appeared
on no card and in no rulebook. Neither did the convention beneath it:
the engine skipped INVISIBLE and SHRINK miss rolls for creature blows
on the theory that a monster in your square has nothing to aim. The
cards say otherwise — SHRINK reduces the chance to hit "in any
attack", and INVISIBLE's D4 carves out no exception for monsters.
From rev 13, creature blows roll the same dice as every other attack
(1 finds the unseen; 1-2 find the tiny), INVISIBLE may be counter-
cast against a creature's blow, and the automatons will do so. The
rolls consume RNG, so earlier games keep their certainty and replay
without them — the refusal survives only there, reworded to blame the
revision instead of inventing a rule.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
INVISIBLE's corner reads NEUTRAL/COUNTERACTION, and ANTI-ANTI's own
face names it an escape — yet the engine refused it at the door. Now
it counters: the vanishing goes up mid-stack (duration from a NUMBER
card riding the counteract command), the attacker's 1-in-4 hit roll
happens at resolution, the spell lingers after the exchange, and
ANTI-ANTI cannot pin it. WATERWALL — "Acts as counteraction to
FIREBALL" — now mirrors WALL OF FIRE's waterbolt-stopping role and
counts as a total stop. WALL OF FIRE itself joins the total-stop set
at rev 12 only: stored rev-10/11 games bounced after it and replay so.
While responding, tapping a number card holds it to ride the next
counter (unless a displayed Shieldstone makes the number itself the
counteraction, as before). The automatons learn the trick too: vanish
when the blow is heavy and the shields are spent, and never waste
ANTI-ANTI against an escape.

"Doubles the existing life-points OR movement rate" — the engine
always took the OR's left side because the client never asked. With
Mega-Monster selected, the hint bar now offers the choice (hit points
lit by default), and the pick rides the cast as params.boost — its
own field, freeing params.cardId for the name-a-card spells it
belongs to. Both halves of the OR are pinned in the creature suite.

The lobby's automaton row was a no-wrap inline-flex: at card width the
"seat a" label collapsed to a vertical sliver and the MYSTERY button
ran clean off the paper. The row now wraps centered within the card
and the label holds one line.

Scoped to everything since the last pass (695307d). The residue of
fast iteration, removed: a reduced-motion media query that had
swallowed a full copy of the .faq-seal rules; doc comments orphaned
from their functions by inserted methods; the FAQ scrape's seams
(section headings run into ruling bodies under the wrong topics, a
next-page heading shipped as a ruling, an amputated "h", and rulings
filed under alphabetically-nearest strangers — Large Rock/Dagger now
lives on those cards; Book of Spells and Torquemada describe no card
in this set and are gone); the write-only aisle flag left behind by
the reverted rev 7; a linter-silenced dead destructure; a duplicated
median lookup; dead casts; and the fallback path that ignored the
apprentice's one-card draw.
Tests now typecheck (tsconfig includes test/), which surfaced the
missing type imports and a drifted creature literal hiding under an
as-cast. Also: a no-op self-assignment, mid-file imports hoisted, a
dynamic-import habit made static, a hedge comment replaced with a
loud setup failure, the fallback-retries-itself dead rung removed
from both bot drivers, and the twin peek scrims merged.
Deliberately kept: the TIERS lookup guard (ledger JSON is untrusted),
the wand-cost stanzas (they differ on the power-attack trade — a
rules question, not a dedup), and rollDie's coexistence with rollD4
(migrating changes visible logs; future work).

Relocate Sector could never land a sector west or north of the origin
— placements the physical game allows by simply sliding the whole map
across the table. The coordinate grid still cannot go negative, but
now it does not need to: a sector may land at negative coordinates
and the whole maze renormalizes, zero-anchoring on both axes (which
also pulls the maze snug when the origin corner is vacated, instead
of leaving a blank band). The client offers the new landings as ghost
slots on every side, verified slot-for-slot against engine truth.
The move also closes a real gap: remapState never carried creatures,
boobytrap tokens, glue, open safes, or dimensional warp tokens when a
sector relocated or rotated — they were left hovering at their old
coordinates. Sectors now carry everything standing on them. Both
changes ride rules rev 11; older ledgers replay their flaws intact,
as replay determinism demands.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The card asked for a destination click that did not exist: a sector
relocates onto an EMPTY 5x5 slot, and empty slots have no floor to
click — the board only rendered cells that are part of the maze. Now
lifting a sector outlines the whole 5x5 (not one square) and dashed
green landings appear beyond the maze edge, one per legal slot; the
svg canvas grows to hold them. Clicking a landing completes the cast.
The landings mirror the engine's own relocateSector law — on the
5-grid, non-negative, vacant, every sector still adjacent to at least
one other — verified slot-for-slot against engine ground truth across
2p and 4p boards. Clicking the maze again re-picks the sector, and a
sector with nowhere legal to go says so in the hint bar.

Slow Death, countered with Force Field — and the battle modal popped
right back up as if nothing had happened, goading a second counter
out of a hand that had already won the exchange. The engine was
bouncing every attacker's pass back to the defender so counters could
stack; correct for partial stops (Blunt, Absorb, Reflection numbers),
senseless past a total one. Under rules rev 10, when a Full Shield,
Force Field, Teleport escape, Full Reflection, or Reverse stands
unnullified, the attacker's declined answer resolves the stack on the
spot. Older ledgers keep the bounce and replay unchanged.
And when the exchange legitimately returns — a partial counter
standing, or a shield broken by Anti-Anti — the modal now says so:
"Your Blunt stands — only what slips past it will land," or "Your
Full Shield was nullified — the attack comes on unchecked," instead
of replaying the fanfare of a fresh, unanswered attack.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Three cards sat wrongly in the creation bucket of eligibleCellsFor,
so the targeting dim demanded sighted empty squares the engine never
asks for. Boobytrap tokens go anywhere on the board but solid stone —
no sight required; a trap you can see coming is a poor trap. Glue and
the safe were worse than restricted: inverted. Both seize a square
that HOLDS a loose object or treasure, exactly the squares the empty-
square rule dimmed out. Each now has its own branch mirroring the
engine's actual checks, pinned by tests.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Safari collapsed the replay board to nothing: an svg with only a
viewBox has no intrinsic size there, and inside the replay's
max-height flex column WebKit sized it 0x0 while Chrome inferred the
ratio and filled the frame. Explicit width/height attributes (doubled,
so the CSS max-* caps still govern the display size) give every engine
the same answer — verified 560x560 in both WebKit and Chromium, with
the main board-zone rendering unchanged.
Commanding your own creature no longer opens the centered card peek —
a modal squarely blocks the squares you are about to march it across.
The card now docks in the paper rail with its live stats, the one
place a card enlarges outside the center of the table. Enemy creatures
and idle peeks keep the modal; they ask nothing of the board.
And once an object is pocketed, the hand goes visibly quiet: cards dim
and refuse selection instead of walking you through target-picking
toward an engine refusal, with a rail slip saying what remains (draw
and end the turn). Counters, chaos shields, and discards still play —
an ambush sprung by the very pickup must be answerable.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Playtesting read the card right and the engine had it wrong. "Placing
the A tokens on one set of exits & the B tokens on the other" means
the two exits you mark BECOME a pair — and their former partners pair
with each other — not that the two exits trade destinations. Under
rev 9, click the exit and then the exit you want it to connect TO
(the hint now says so); already-connected exits are refused. Earlier
games keep the swap their logs were validated against. Test pins the
full four-way rewiring.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The edge-click dispatch attached the tapped number card only for
wall attacks, so the warp wand's first use could never receive its
charges ("a wand's first use needs a number card" no matter what),
and wall of fire silently burned one turn instead of its NUMBER.
Cell-target casts had the same gap for duration terrain. The attached
number now rides every edge and cell cast.
