Most meteor showers are caused by the earth passing through the path of a comet, and comet Linear passed by just 40 days ago. By the way, Comet Linear was discovered by [a telescope](http://www.ll.mit.edu/LINEAR/) in Socorro, NM (home of my [alma mater](http://www.nmt.edu)) searching for near-earth asteroids . |
