Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5.1 1ebd6dbe47 A refused seat is logged, and the wallet drops a seat only on the second refusal in a row
A lost seat mid-game is the costliest quiet failure this table has: one
refusal around a restart cost Kestrel PRPM's seat with nothing in the
journal to say why.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5.1 1be1cf7d1b A lobby may challenge the keeper, and the table can talk before the boards flip
"Challenge Kestrel, the keeper" holds a seat under the keeper's name,
writes the call to the ledger, says so at the table, and raises a
Sentry issue fingerprinted to the room — one ring per call, with the
room's link in the message — which is the alarm the keeper's phone
listens for. The keeper answers by the link: taking the seat, and
leaving a word if the game must wait. For that word, and for any table
to settle when to start, the lobby now shows its talk and carries a
composer; a joiner sees what was said before they sat. Three calls per
address per hour, one per room.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5.1 12a655868b The table says when it is out of reach, a finished table can call a rematch, and spells and treasure read plainly
Connection: while the socket is down a notice says so, the hand, board,
and action buttons go quiet, a card left selected stays selected, and
table talk stays in its box. A command that could not leave is named
as not sent; one that left before the drop is named as unconfirmed
until the board answers. A command on its way shows as sending beside
End turn and confirms when the table replies. Talk shows as sending
until the table echoes it, and comes back to the composer if the
socket drops first.

Rematch: anyone at a finished table may call one. The server makes a
new room hosted by the caller, with the same clockwork at the same
tiers and moods (a mystery stays a mystery) and the same expansion
setting, and keeps seats for the last table's other wizards, who find
the call on the finished table and in their lobby ledger and sit with
one click. The old table's replay stays where it was. A solo table
against the clockwork keeps "play again".

Reading the table: an ongoing spell's chip opens its card with a plain
account — what it does, who cast it on whom, and when it ends, in the
rulebook's own terms. Each score row counts the treasures a wizard has
carried home, and marks a wizard one carry from winning.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5.1 4c2a253723 The tester's second pass: the rule as written, advice that follows the board, the fold, the story on the replay page, and one click to begin
- Help said "walk, then act"; the rules let moves and cards come in any
order, and now the help does too.
- The council's advice is derived from the live view while its panel is
open, so a Number just played for movement is no longer recommended.
It rests when the turn is not yours; "ask again" had nothing to add.
- The landing puts the name and the ways in before the clip, and beside
it on a desktop: at 1280x720 the play button and Create/Join are above
  the fold.
- The replay page opens with the same deed the share card promises, and
"play free" stands beside the reel instead of after the history.
- In hotseat the "pass the device" scrim stood above the roll-off, so the
first click on "begin" landed on the handoff card. The handoff waits
  for the dice.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5.1 6e49fc9020 Credibility pass: comments say what the code can't, and the seams are gone
Engine: pit-rim exits live in one helper (pitRimExits) shared by the
resolver and the automaton; chargeReach names the six-stride cap; dust
sight is inDust + dustAtEnd; PushPending is exported once; the force-field
counter builds its events in one list; drawUnderSlowDeath says what it
draws under. Test groups are named for the rule they pin, not the
revision that introduced it.

Client: one smoothstep; one edgeScar per battle-scarred edge; one
board-zone rule (which also seats the caption strip on phones); the
compass names live in SIDE_NAMES; net.flash() is the one toast; MediaQuery
replaces two hand-rolled matchMedia listeners; sprites carry their sizes
as plain numbers and their CSS in one rule each; canvas helpers are
formatted like the rest of the tree. Comments that told how a cel or a
fallback used to look now say what it draws. The actions-over notice no
longer blames a pickup when slime ended the turn.

Server and ops: dataRoot() is the one data directory; headlineOf builds
its deeds without a cast; the rollup and skills read the same way the
code behaves.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5.1 4cc0423846 The first minute, for a stranger: what the game is, what to do, and how to join
The landing says the pitch before it asks for a name — steal treasure,
blast through walls, outwit your friends — and states the goal. The
coach says "select a card, then choose its target," which is what the
cards actually want. The turn banner counts treasures home beside the
moves left. The council speaks once when its three voices agree. A
friend arriving on an invite link meets "Join Eric's game," a name
field, and a seat, with the gallery an afterthought; the masthead
says "invite friends" beside the room code. The first-person view has
a toggle beside the board instead of a checkbox in preferences. How
to play opens with winning. And a shared moment's card is titled by
the turn's story — the treasure carried home, the blow that landed,
the spell cast — instead of whose turn it was.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5.1 0911312f98 A page from before a deploy can still find its chunks, or reload once
Sentry WIZWAR-5: a table open through a deploy asked for the replay
module by its old hashed name, the deploy had deleted it, and the
server answered with the app shell as text/html — "not a valid
JavaScript MIME type". Three guards: deploys keep old chunks for a
week instead of deleting them; a missing asset is a plain 404, never
the shell; and the client reloads once when Vite reports a failed
import, so the live bundle takes over.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5.1 e1a740119c Credibility pass: the session seams sanded from the clips-and-camera batch
Two blind reviews of everything since the last pass (afa0e17), every
finding checked against the code, no behavior changed: all thirty
scene goldens match without a re-bless and the engine suite is
untouched.

Reel and renderer: the camera's look-down rule is stated once, beside
LOOK_DOWN, instead of twice in the effect; the empty aim branch that
stood where a cutaway used to be is gone (the guard it implied is now
explicit); the pit events and the punch are handled by their own
types, not through "in" casts; smoothstep is one export used by every
tween instead of eleven inline copies; the two floor rings share one
painter; project() takes a Billboard instead of a third hand-typed
copy of its fields; the strides-left figure and the web rim no longer
shadow the reel's steps and the pane's fx; the die card's verdict is
built from events, not by matching an emoji; the workshop asks for the
hover cue by name instead of passing an empty click handler.

Server and engine: one requestBase() for the origin, one slug pattern
in store.ts gating both the clip page and its files, one 404 for both;
LOOPBACK sits above its only caller; doCounteract names what a counter
is played against once; fearCells sits beside its own docblock rather
than between sightedCellsFor and its.

Deploy: chromiumExe, the private server, ffmpeg, and the reel rewind
live in deploy/lib/harness.mjs, shared by the gate, the recorder, and
the card cutter instead of pasted three times; the recorder drops its
duplicate frame counters and names its poster settle; the card uses the
gallery's exact gold; the one-time Sentry URL bootstrap leaves
deploy.sh; the backup comment states the rule rather than the incident.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5.1 ca108f83a6 The nightly rollup keeps what the access log forgets; two doors get a limit
Three sysadmin items ahead of the public announcement's arrivals.

deploy/wizwar-rollup.sh writes one JSON line per UTC day to
/var/lib/wizwar/rollup.jsonl at 00:10: yesterday's traffic from Caddy's
access log (requests, human vs bot addresses as counts only, socket
connects, path mix, external referrers), the table's growth (new
rooms, human seats and names, lifetime game totals, reports and
replies), and the box's vitals (service memory and peak, disk, load,
protocol errors, service starts, ledger size). Re-rolling a day
replaces its line. It checks in to a Sentry cron monitor of its own,
whose URL deploy.sh derives from the backup monitor's on first
install, alongside the cron entry. The pulse gains a Trends section
that reads the last week of it. Caddy keeps 30 log files instead of 5
as the raw backing.

Per-address limits on the two doors anyone may use unseated: 12 new
rooms and 6 reports per address per hour, in a sliding window keyed by
the address Caddy forwards. The per-connection cap stays; it reset on
reconnect, which is what a script would do.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 6c48174376 Screenplays: authored scenes the engine performs and the reel films
?fpv&script=<name> plays a screenplay — a seeded deal, cards slipped
into hands as props, then a command list run through applyCommand, so
every event on screen is a legal move under the real rules. Ten scenes
ship in the catalog: wormhole heists, a fireball threaded through a
warp, an ambush that watches its corridor through a mouth, the leap
over a conjured pit, and the wall between two homes coming down.

The server grows a public gallery to hang them in: /clips lists the
catalog, /clips/<name> pages each scene in two takes — through the
wizard's eyes and from the board — with og:video unfurls and
Range-served mp4s (Safari refuses video without it). Files live in
the clip vault beside the rooms, shipped by deploy/clips-publish.sh;
the name gate is the security.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 afa0e17483 Credibility pass: the fast-edit shavings swept from the ops-and-rev-13 batch
Server: turnFacts joins actingSeat's full priority order (a hanging
ward or slow-death window now reads as the lobby's attention, stubs
included), summarize and stubOf share one baseSummary, the stranded
doc comment returns to summarize, the protocol contract names
feedbackList, Sentry init moves below the imports it cannot precede,
randomBytes joins its group, the feedback path hoists once with the
operator-fields note. Engine: the safe's sight check trusts castSight
alone, the locked-safe predicate becomes lockedSafeAt, the doomed-grab
test drives both seats and must reach endTurn. Web: the twin safe
handlers merge, paPoints joins the reset ritual with a derived burnable
range, five decorative empty handlers and a dead class go, the hand
earns real list semantics, fitHandCards cites Card.svelte's tokens,
two wrap-sites reindent, feedbackReports moves home as a named type,
and the chronicle's stay-mounted reason is stated. feedback-reply.sh
adopts its siblings' set/usage conventions and speaks Node. Two test
screenshots leave the repo root.

The 45-second myGames poll called getRoom per held seat — every open

peekSummary answers live rooms without touching their clocks and
sleeping rooms from a stub snapped at eviction (a sleeping room cannot
change, so the stub stays true until a real join or watch wakes it).
Bad tokens void as before; tokenMatches takes any token map.

and a duplicate import go; span 6 and the two cache strategies say why;

the replay harness now honors lobby kicks, which VVZU (five bots
seated, two kicked) was the first production ledger to exercise.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 002698085f Ready for a crowd: idle rooms sleep, share cards render once
Memory now carries only live tables — a sweep puts finished rooms to
bed after 30 minutes and anything untouched after a day, and getRoom
wakes a sleeping room from its ledger the moment anyone asks (the
seed plus the log IS the game). The room cap counts ledgers on disk,
not just rooms awake. Share-card PNGs render once per share id and
cache immutable. Rate-limit kicks use terminate() so an abuser cannot
hold the socket open by ignoring the closing handshake.

A living room's link unfurls as an invitation (waiting rooms beckon a
seat, started games a gallery view) via the shared ogPage baker. The

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 ca0a4ef2e3 Forced drops bank honestly; half-dead sockets confess
DROP OBJECT's forced drop hardcoded onHomeOf null and skipped the
victory check — a treasure shaken loose over a home square neither
reported the banking nor triggered scoring or the captured-treasures
clause until something else prodded the engine. It now lands like any
drop: homeOwnerAt reported, checkVictory immediate.

And the stuck-game mystery from 38YP: a deploy restart left the
browser holding a half-dead socket that never fired onclose, so the
existing reconnect loop and masthead banner never engaged and a live
game wore a frozen face. The client now pings every 15s and force-
closes a socket silent for 45s, which wakes the reconnect machinery;
the server answers pong.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 3bd7e3c81d Credibility pass: the duels leave the code, staying in the ledgers
Third pass, scoped from 7a32370. Three blind reviewers (engine, web,
server/tools) each concluded the work is coherent engineering with
seam-level tells; every finding was verified before touching a line.

Session biography left the comments: the bot brain's heuristics no
longer cite the opponent who taught them, the RNRX coma parenthetical
and the thief-chase citation are gone, the seat-wallet comments state
their invariants without the war stories, and process-named test
groups now name the behaviors they pin. The incident record lives
where history belongs — commit messages and the ledgers.

Structural dedup: one VISIONSTONE one-edge-sight loop serves both
LOS paths; one creature-arrival touch handler serves walking and
warp-stepping (error text aligned); one facingWedge helper draws both
keymap ribbons; one spriteVisibleInCol rule serves the draw pass and
the hover test (which also stops re-sorting per pointermove); and
deepestFacing joins the director, replacing four copied scans.

Test hardening exposed real rot the tells were hiding: the tight
CreatureState cast caught two literals with a bogus field masking
three missing ones; the number-hoarding rig had NEVER run (its
column didn't exist on seed 42 — it now carves its own geometry);
the bank-guard rig now drives the whole table to an arrival
assertion; the bent-trace test walls off straight sight so the bend
must answer. Silent `return`-on-rig-failure became loud throws, and
can-never-fail assertions were removed.

Sweep-up: the eyeTurn ghost comment, the stacked leave() doc
comments (leave now delegates to leaveLocal), the dead ternary in
the seat client, the kick handler's name-coercion drift, kick ledger
lines gain timestamps, archiveRoomFile reuses fileFor, the RULES_REV
alias retires in favor of the engine constant, hitTest un-exports,
the NUL-sentinel hover shape becomes an honest "none" variant, and
the steering holds get named constants. The bezel's stride cluster
also centers per the table's note.

288 tests, 24 ledgers verified, all workspaces typecheck.

The games-list reply pruned any wallet seat the server did not vouch
for — so one poll against a restarting (or wrong) server silently
deleted live credentials, the second seat-burning path this session's
server-squatting exposed. myGames now returns explicit verdicts:
a seat is voided only when its room EXISTS and refused that exact
token. Absent rooms earn no verdict and absent seats survive; the
wallet caps by age at fifty instead of by trust.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 365cb3821e Idle bot turns confess; the chronicle fills its gaps
A clockwork whose chosen command the engine refuses now stumbles
visibly: the refusal is logged server-side with the offending command
(the RNRX coma took three silent turns to notice), and the bot says
so in character at the table — "RECALCULATING." — instead of an
unexplained idle turn. And six event types that never spoke in the
chronicle find their lines: the wave's wash-back, thornbush entry,
dragged objects, the opening deal, stolen-card and revealed-hand
privates. Replay captions inherit them all through humanize.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 9af7bd80ce The host clears seats and closes rooms
Two lobby-lifecycle gaps from tonight's duels (a token lost to a
client bug left an unkickable ghost seat holding a chair in VQJW).
kickSeat: the host removes any other seat from an unstarted room —
the kick is a ledger line so restarts replay it, and a kicked live
socket is set adrift with notice. abandonRoom: the host dissolves a
lobby or a finished game; every member is notified and detached, and
the ledger is archived to rooms-abandoned/ — moved, never deleted.
The lobby shows hosts a ✕ per seat and an abandon-room control.
Proven live: kick with notice, kick surviving a server restart, and
abandonment archiving its ledger.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 7a32370ccb Credibility pass: the reel's scars sanded, the veil finally hung
Three blind reviews over the first-person arc, every finding verified
against the source. History-narrating comments made timeless or cut;
the stacked BUDDY comment collapsed to one voice. Dead code out: the
orphaned FACE copy, the DIR_ANGLE duplicate, the dead loop-counter
poke, the impossible-state sentinel. The never-produced "warp" hit
kind resolved the right way — warp mouths now hang a translucent veil
of the painted warp texture, so art that never rendered finally does.
Types tightened (SlabStrike named once, ShareData rides CatchUpStep,
botTier loses its casts), the gallery reads MATERIALS instead of a
hand-copied list, the chronicle resets through one helper, a
superseded share mint rejects instead of stranding, and the conjured
safe gains the growth key its siblings had. Tests lose a triple
assignment, a tautology, and two self-swallowing regex alternatives.
The sprite spec — which still told the artist to paint for additive
compositing the renderer no longer uses — now describes the renderer
that exists.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 5fc5805354 Odds, ends, and every missing effect: doorways dressed, victory earns its fireworks
The audit Eric called for, delivered whole. Open doors are DOORWAYS
now: stone jamb posts at both ends and a lintel hung across the top
(paintable as textures/doorframe.png), the way through open to the eye.
Battle damage shows — the engine's per-edge wallDamage wears painted
cracks into any wall, heavier as harm mounts. The wall safe stands as
a strongbox volume instead of a flat token. Hedges take root: an
underbrush floor decal covers the whole square beneath them (Eric's
report — a billboard at center depth can't reach the floor trapezoid's
near edge), and the hedge itself widens past the cell. Rubble
stretches across the fallen wall's full gap, corner piles landing at
the posts, exactly as its art was painted.

The first-person effect gaps close: victory now throws SIX fireworks
climbing over the winner's home with gold washing the screen; sector
rotations flash violet and heave the whole world; the Thumb of God
lands with a burst and a shudder; walls conjured from nothing rise in
stone dust; and every hazard pratfall plays — pit falls (with a dark
drop and jolt for the faller's own eyes), ooze slips, tack yelps,
thorn snaps, slime, dust. Dying in first person fades long and dark.

And the whole tale travels: a finished game's full replay carries the
share button too — turn -1 mints a link to every turn of the game,
each through its wizard's own eyes, titled for the winner's triumph.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 a28d27eedc The camera always wears the turn-taker's eyes, and knows whose turn zero is
Eric's rule, applied everywhere: every reel — moment, catch-up, whole
tale — follows the wizard whose turn it is, the pov switching at each
handover as boundaries scroll past. And the J8LL mystery dies with it:
turn zero's opening boundary lives in the DEAL, before any command, so
scanning a moment's steps found the NEXT turn's start instead and put
the camera in the wrong wizard's head. momentSteps now names the owner
from the very boundary that opened the turn — counted through the deal
— and carries it to the client and the share page, where it also fixes
the same latent mis-titling.

Also aboard: the cutaway shot. When the eyes aim at something they
cannot see — a wraith summoned across the maze, a spell through walls —
the camera cuts to the target's cell for that beat, standing back down
its deepest corridor, and cuts home on the next step. The wraith no
longer materializes off-screen.

Host and x-forwarded-proto are attacker-writable and were interpolated
raw into the share page's meta attributes. The proto must now be

else that reaches the head.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 4838996cf0 Share a turn with the world: /watch links, cards and chrome included
The share button lands on the instant replay. One click mints a slug —
persistent, unguessable, one per (room, turn) — and copies a /watch
link anyone can open: the server rebuilds exactly that turn for the
nameless SPECTATOR, public knowledge only, none of the rest of the
game visible. The page arrives with its OpenGraph card pre-baked into
the head (crawlers never run the app): the turn's title and round in
the text, and an og.png of the maze itself — cells, walls, doors, warp
mouths, homes, standees — painted server-side and PNG-encoded with
nothing but node's own zlib. The viewer page wears its chrome: the
WIZ-WAR masthead linking home, the turn's title, the reel opening
straight into the turn-owner's eyes with a "watch it again" loop, and
a footer that says what this table is and deals the visitor in.

The share page loads as its own entry so a shared link never drags the
full app's socket appetite along; the reel's modal scrim learns to
stand in a page instead of over one.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 f52d0d88a9 The instant replay: a chronicle line's eye relives the turn, firsthand
The dream feature lands, behind a preference that ships off for now.
The chronicle's lines grow structure — each knows its turn, counted by
the same boundary events on both ends of the wire (the server counts
the deal's own events too, or every number would sit one turn behind).
The first notable line of a turn — combat, spectacle, a targeted cast
— wears a small eye; clicking it asks the server for that one turn's
steps, rebuilt and redacted like any reel, and the replay opens
STRAIGHT into first person through the eyes of the wizard whose turn
it was: their position, the viewer's knowledge, nothing private leaked.
It plays that turn and stops. Save-video and the board toggle come
along for free.

Two camera bugs die with it: the replay tween effect tracked its own
writes, restarting the ease every frame until walks decayed into the
slow wall-piercing drift Eric saw — untracked reads run one tween per
step now. And the reel camera follows whichever eyes the reel wears,
not always your own.

doc comments rejoined their functions; the swap-meet tradables collapsed
from four pasted deriveds to one (killing the "the's treasure" label);
FEAR's aura and banner now share the engine's own dreadDistance; the
long-press peek got one home; rulebook.ts stopped wearing JSON quotes;
process-named tests and war-story comments now state the constraints they

actually count failures; the runbook learned about the determinism gate
and the nightly backups. No behavior changes — 255 tests and all 48
production ledgers replay identically.

Hands already go face-up when the maze is won; now the roster does
too — a secret automaton's row reads 'archmage berserker (was a

from either a human or the bot pump. Mid-game, the mood stays its
own business.

The bot pump only ran when a command or join arrived, so a server

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 d2b40ec6f8 Credibility pass: the seams get sanded
Scoped to everything since the last pass (3308850). Three blind
reviews, every finding verified before touching anything.

Confirmed and fixed: two identical comment-splitting insertions left
doc comments orphaned from their fields (net and local alike); a
51-line CSS fossil of the pre-extraction inline effects survived in
Board.svelte; the rev-13 miss-roll test asserted tautologies while
its comment claimed a check the code never made — it now proves the
die was consumed, and the skeleton is no longer returned as trollId;
the sprite registry's `as never` silently disabled the completeness
its annotation advertised (now a mapped type, one cast at the
dispatch seam); a dead ternary guarded a union that doesn't exist;
Bolt carried a duplicate .fork rule from a color iteration; fxTtl
contradicted three sprites' real animation lengths; the permanence
sentinel was reinvented as a magic 9000 (the engine now exports
isPermanentDuration); CELL was declared thrice (fx.ts now imports
it); App and Replay ran two divergent fx schedulers (one scheduleFx
now, cancellable — stale flourishes can no longer fire after leaving
a game); TokenArt retried missing files forever; the anti-anti
escape guards merge with the gate asymmetry explained; wall-of-fire's
rev-12 carve-out is marked; overLimit ignored a displayed BRAINSTONE
(bots over-discarded by two); botRemark's header mis-stated its own
branches; deliverGold fired on any drop, not a home-base delivery;
escape and win banter never fired from the steps that carry them.

Rejected: "as a human would" (house voice); FxGallery's dev-harness
framing (trimmed one plea, kept the facts).

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 b01e27c644 The banter moves to its own book, and learns new verses
BOT_LINES leaves the server internals for banter.ts, keyed by
semantic trigger instead of raw event type, so editing the clockwork's
voice takes no knowledge of the event stream. The repertoire grows
from fourteen lines to fifty across twelve occasions — grabbing and
delivering gold, dealing and taking pain, killing and dying,
summoning, walling, escaping, springing traps, dodging, and winning.

Bots also now speak when things happen TO them: the actor remarks on
its deeds, bystanders on their suffering — a berserker taking a hit
answers "I FELT THAT. DO IT AGAIN." even on your turn. Still at most
one voice per step, still half the time, menace over chatter.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 b9c784a10c Difficulty without stupidity: apprentice, adept, archmage
Tiers degrade resources and repertoire, never judgment — the design
constraint was that no tier may ever look dumb. The APPRENTICE draws
one card a turn instead of two (a poorer wizard, not a worse one),
spends counters only on heavy hits (thrift, not blindness), and
carries a modest spellbook: damage, summons, stones, keys, and
treasure play, with no afflictions, amplifies, ambushes, guarding
tricks, or deja-vu. The ADEPT draws fully and knows everything except
ambushes and amplify. The ARCHMAGE is the full curriculum. Every card
any tier plays, it plays correctly.

The lobby workshop gains a tier picker beside the temperaments
(default adept); the tier persists with the seat, shows in roster and
scoresheet ("⚙ apprentice mystery"), and rides the drive loop.
Measured where it should matter: in berserker combat mirrors the
archmage beats the apprentice two to one, while pure treasure races
stay honest — the handicap lives in the card exchanges a human
actually feels, pinned deterministically in the tournament suite.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 a6ede6ca1e The clockwork reads the whole deck
Every playable card now has a place in the automaton's mind. The
damage table completes: lightning blast, wizardblade, and power drain
scale with numbers (and are skipped without one), disease bites in
the shared square, the dagger's true three points corrected. A new
affliction book casts the miseries — blind, slow, medusa, no-spell,
lock-in-place, walking dead, slow death, idiot, thought steal,
go-away — with a number for the duration, and WEAKNESS is saved for
whoever carries stolen gold. AMPLIFY doubles the heavy spells.

The counteraction ladder runs the full rack: REVERSE eats the big
blasts, ABSORB SPELL steals the good ones, FULL SHIELD, FULL
REFLECTION, REMOVE CURSE refuses afflictions at the door, REFLECTION
halves, ABSORB soaks the mid-range, BLUNT, EMPATHY out of berserker
spite, teleport escapes, shieldstone numbers.

Housekeeping: every stone hits the table the turn it is drawn, GIFT
FROM ABOVE is cashed instantly, curses get scrubbed with REMOVE
CURSE, LIFESAVER goes up at three players, a SAFE or GLUE guards
floor gold with enemies near, and DEJA-VU pulls the best attack back
from the discard when the hand runs dry of violence.

Table talk verified live ("ACQUISITION COMPLETE." mid-probe) — the
silence was timing, not plumbing — and the remark odds rise to half.
Three-way tournaments tell true stories now: the hunter wins on
gold, the worrier survives to win by attrition, and the berserker
learns that aggression in a three-way gets you buried first.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 3eda686e29 The full clockwork curriculum: keys, vengeance, spellcraft, and voice
Every play-strength item, in one education. DOORS: the pathfinder
walks through doors it can open — already-opened ones freely, locked
ones when holding Master Key or Pick Lock, casting the key at the
door on the path before stepping through (and a loop where the
clockwork re-keyed an already-open door forever is fixed: opened
doors read as open). TREASURE DEFENSE: a wizard carrying the
automaton's gold becomes the priority — chased over all objectives,
shaken down with DROP OBJECT when held, and attacked first. WIDER
SPELLCRAFT: blaster wands charged by number and fired; teleport as
escape when wounded and hunted, and as a counteraction clear of big
incoming spells; SPEED cast on sight; WARD armed to guard the gold;
shieldstone displayed so spare numbers soak small hits; ANTI-ANTI
pressed against counters (never against escapes); the berserker grows
BIG with an enemy near, the worrier fades invisible or slams a
CREATE WALL in its pursuer's face; ambushes armed from held
interrupts — the worrier trapping its doorstep, the others trapping
the treasure. Tournament suite green across all temperaments.

And the clockwork speaks: sparing, temperament-voiced table talk on
its own deeds — "ACQUISITION COMPLETE.", "SCHEDULED DEMISE:
DELIVERED.", "good wall. safe wall." — through the same chat ledger
as everyone else. The tally gains "games fought against the
clockwork", and automatons no longer pollute the count of wizards
seated.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 1aafb9e837 The mystery machine keeps its mood to itself
"Random" read as random ACTIONS, and a revealed random pick is barely
a mystery anyway. The fourth workshop button is now "mystery": the
server rolls the temperament and keeps it — the join line records it
for replay, the drive loop plays it, but the room tells the table
only "mystery". Roster and scoresheet show ⚙ mystery; the machine's
behavior is the only tell.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 5a407a1e4c The clockwork learns numbers, summons, creatures — and temperament
The automaton now plays number cards where they matter: attached to
value-scaled attacks (waterbolt, powerthrust) choosing the biggest
for damage, and played for movement when the goal is just out of
stride. It raises its monsters when no wizard is in spell range and
commands them every turn — creatures march at enemies by the same
hazard-shy BFS and maul whoever shares their square. Targets are
picked by lowest life.

And it has moods. The HUNTER plays the classic game: gold first,
violence when convenient. The BERSERKER hunts wizards over treasure
and finishes games by last-wizard-standing. The WORRIER paths around
enemies, counters at a lower threshold, shields against chaos, and
never brawls. Hosts pick the temperament when seating one (or the
workshop assigns at random); it persists with the seat, shows in the
roster, and the tournament harness proves every pairing finishes.
Across ten seeds of berserker versus hunter: six treasure wins to
four kills — the moods play genuinely different games.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 3842307bf0 The clockwork plays at a watchable pace
One command per beat — 1.5 seconds, the replay's 1x cadence — each
broadcast with its board state as it lands, starting a beat after
the human's own action settles. The pump is per-room, re-entrancy
guarded, and stops the moment the maze wants a human (or the game
ends). Watching an automaton stalk your treasure across the maze is
now a spectacle instead of a teleport.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 ab52628d2f The automatons awaken (branch only — not for the public droplet yet)
Phase 4 begins. The automaton is a pure function in the engine —
automatonCommand(view) — playing from its own redacted GameView, the
same information a human seat receives: hidden hands stay hidden from
the clockwork. It ranks simple damage spells, counters what hurts
(full shield at 3+, reflection at 4+, blunt at 2+), discards its
worst cards by a value order, BFS-pathfinds to enemy treasures and
home again, refuses to path through hazards, brawls when there is
nothing to steal, and always has a safe fallback; the server's drive
loop steps any bot-held seat through the same runCommand path as
humans, so bot commands log, persist, replay, and broadcast like
anyone's.

Hosts seat them pre-start with "⚙ seat an automaton" (Automaton,
Automaton II, ... V); bot seats persist as tokenless join lines and
restore on boot. Proven three ways: bot-vs-bot engine games conclude
across seeds in 8-14 rounds (~100 commands — human-scale), a full
four-automaton table finishes, and a live websocket game of human
vs. automaton ended with the clockwork carrying two treasures home
through a do-nothing opponent.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 5802e1df05 Table talk keeps its place in the chronicle
Live chat interleaved correctly, but a reload sank every past message
to the bottom: the rejoin sent the whole game history first and the
chat history after. Talk is now a tableTalk event in the room's event
stream at the moment it was said — the room file already preserved
the interleaving, since chat lines append between command lines — so
rejoining players read the banter between the battle lines where it
happened. The separate chatHistory message retires; unread counting
rides the event stream instead.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 ef661c79ad The die rolls in the open
Every player-facing D4 roll now lands in the chronicle as pips with
its purpose: "🎲 alice rolls a 3 — aiming at the unseen — only a 1
finds them." A shared rollD4 helper threads the generic dieRolled
event through blind staggers and swings, pit leaps, ooze and pit
struggles, and the invisible/shrink miss rolls — the table sees the
die land, exactly as it would in person. Rolls whose numbers already
showed (the troll's swing, the misdirection direction, the opening
roll-off) keep their lines.

And the physical die's other job — "any 50-50 call" — gets its
button: 🎲 beside the say-box in online games (server-rolled,
published through the chat ledger so it persists, replays, and counts
toward unread badges) and under the chronicle in hotseat, rolled on
the device. Chronicle only; no game state touched.

Eric WagonerandClaude Fable 5 df52e9b53a Table talk: chat woven into the chronicle
A say-box under the chronicle sends table talk to the room; messages
land in the event log itself, styled as parchment asides — banter
between the battle lines, the way it happens at a real table. Talk is
seat-authenticated, stripped and capped at 300 chars, rate-limited by
the existing bucket, persisted as chat lines in the room file (the
game replay ignores them; the room keeps its last 500), and replayed
to anyone joining. Async games get unread badges in the lobby ledger
(💬3), cleared by watching the table, and catch-up replays speak the
lines at the step where they were said. Public to the whole room, no
whispers — and no chat in hotseat, where the table talks for itself.
